I don't have time for making videos just at the moment. But, if you follow my old Yamaha PW video, the motors are very similar. The board is relatively easy to change.
This can be due to a few things on the Gen 2. If any extra sealing options have been fitted, these will add friction. Earlier Bosch motors main motor bearings ran with less friction than the latest ones with better sealing. The main motor bearing shield was updated to incorporate a rubber lip...
Yes, your motor will need to come apart, but I think you're going to find a bit of a mess in there! The only thing is that I am a big fan of people doing their own repairs, but the Bosch Gen 4 is not a motor you really want to be "having a go at" It is easy to break and difficult to repair...
Turn your pedals backwards without the chain moving and you should hear the freewheel ratchet clicking quite loud and crisp. If you can't hear anything, or it sounds soft and muffled, your freewheel sleeve is starting to seize to the rust build-up on your crankshaft. This tends to rust or gum-up...
Standing up will rule out the dropper. It usually goes in this order:
Motor bolts.
Chainring bolts (if spider is fitted).
Crank arms.
Pedals.
Suspension linkage.
Rear axle.
Cracked frame.
Headstock. (Yes, most noises travel down the frame tubes and emanate from the motor area).
A good way of...
Too late, already fired up! How many clicks per revolution of the crank? Does it get louder when under power? Does it go away when the motor is off? Does it go away if you stand up and pedal?
We do not currently deal with Shimano so I can't really comment. My usual comment to these types of questions is that many people do many thousands of miles on their ebikes without any issues. This means that it is sometimes better to buy with your heart than buy with your head.

If the issue is with the freehub in the back wheel, the chain will go slack on top (provided you have a derailleur system) If this is not happening, then as the others have said, it is probably motor related. This is a common issue on the Gen 4 because the crankshaft rusts and starts to become...
It is sad but true! All the other manufacturers have helped and supported us in someway, but Shimano and their supplier in the UK, Madisons, will not even speak to us! Such a shame when so many customers need help outside of warranty. We used to overhaul Shimano and we still support these motors...
That is not a lot of mileage, so I would be very surprised if you need a service kit just yet, unless you spend a lot of time off road in mud and water. If the bearings were damaged or worn, you would hear a rough sounding noise! If you fit this service kit DO NOT fit the felt seals, they will...
