Lot of good advice hear. My meta stock deity rear wheel was breaking spokes on almost every ride! Ebikes are really hard on rear wheels and drivetrain s. I went with a dt swiss 350 hub and 511 rim. So far so good.
On the deity wheel, Everytime I broke a spoke I replaced it with a 13 Guage...
No other parts needed other than fork and wheel. Put on a new headset because stock one rusted. Pretty cheap. Went with a fox 38 fork which was much better/ stiffer than stock lyrik. Then put in a smashpot coil insert and that really made it good! Nothing but knarly dh runs for a year on this...
I made my sx 27.5 into a mullet by adding a 29er fork/wheel to front. Love it and would never go back. Front gobbled rough terrain and rear is poppy and turns great and no butt rub!
I was chasing a rear creak on my sx. Found it was the black bolt that holds the rear derailleur, that the rear axle slides through had loosened. Tightened it up but it came loose again so I added loctight to the threads. All good now.
I owned a 1st edition vlt 1 a few years back. Great bike! I put a fox dhx coil on it and found the bikes suspension was not very progressive and would blow through it travel even with the heaviest spring for my 190lbs. Someone on this forum suggested trying a mrp progressive coil and I got one...
I have a 2020 gunmetal sx. I've found the paint finish very durable. I did put helecoptor tape on wear spot but have been pleased with how it's held up to some hard riding.
The battery cover is a rubbery plastic that has survived numerous rock hit with no chips.
other than stanchion size I'd say the biggest difference is the grip vs grip2 dampers. if u know how to tune a fork properly than LS/HS adjustment for compression and rebound can be huge. I have a fox 38 performance elite on my meta and it is next level. those forks are made for the heavier ebikes.

the SL is an amazing bike. I really enjoy the 42lb weight. rides very much like a regular bike. its a bit on the light side for the dh duties im putting it thru. I look forward to spec putting out a longer travel sl version next year.

I've mounted and ridden fox x2, dhx2, bomber, dvo air. pretty much all needed a different cage that sits lower on bike. the Arundel carbon cage is what I use.
I've been chasing a squeak on my sl comp for awhile now. Greased all my pivots etc. Turns out it was my offset bushing causing my frame to contact my bomber cr coil shock. Noticed rubbing on shock. Bummed I can't use the bushing but glad that noise is gone!
