A demo trailer of six ebikes was stolen here in Christchurch (NZ) night before last. With the electronics already on board, these bikes should all have disabling/tracking options to deter theft in the first place and if they do go make them difficult to hide, sell, service or warranty.
I use a Park PCS -10 and clamp it on the top tube section above the shock. This allows me to rotate it through 360 if I wanted to, but if I'm changing a battery I just put the bike nose down about 45 degrees
I've done both ends of the OGR (on YT Jeffsy) - conked out 10km into the climb out of Lyell (heart problems) so drove round to other end and rode 20km up the river the next day to Specimen Point to meet my group. I reckon the 700wh would get me to Ghost Lake in Eco, it's a moderate gradient ...
Yesterday I did 35km with 670m of climbing and got home with 9% left (500wh). I generally ride ECO (20/35) on the flat/road sections and Trail (40/60) on the tracks with Turbo (60/100) for the really steep climbs. Realistically i'd bank on about 30km for an all off-road ride with steep climbs...
I clamp mine as per the first photo (alloy though not carbon) as the bike balances at that point and only a small clamping force is required. Couldn't clamp at the seatpost as there is not enough out of the frame.
LIked the X Fusion until it seized up after six months. It was replaced under warranty with the Command and despite it's terrifying return speed and preset height steps, I've got used to it and the larger diameter tubes are at least a bit reassuring. If it needs replacing I would probably go...
Your range will improve with your fitness, but losing weight would also help as the batteries make us all acutely aware of the power to weight ratio and the key variable of gradient. Compared to when I got my bike 9 months ago I am the same weight, but can get up shallower climbs with lower...
First motor (2019) was a noisy one so that was replaced almost immediately, the new one had done 2500km in 8 months then the drive belt blew last week. Belt replaced and back on the road two days ago, apparently a shortage of complete new motors but not too worried. I'm thinking a quick motor...
Ground Effect stuff is good and I reckon these would go ok as the opening at the bottom of the leg is adjustable - leave it loose with pads and tighten if you're not wearing them and need a closer fit.
Helter Skelters
I think I know the noise you're talking about, mine blew a belt last week after 2500km and one long, super steep (up to 28%) "all turbo" climb too many. Got it to the shop next morning, motor out and sent to Specialized to fix and back on the trail in less than a week. They also offered a demo...
Another option is the All Mountain Style range - i've actually put this over the clear BK Protect as it's thicker and the solid black broke up the colour scheme of the bike.
I used this stuff from Portugal bkprotect Large Pack
The longest piece in this set is 500mm so it will do a full down tube. It's been on there nine months and still fully clear.
I can see how it could be a problem on narrow track, but I've got used to it and sometimes it can be a benefit when I'm going up a bit of a step or through rocks and can't pedal constantly.
Sounds good. I'm actually surprised at how few ebikes I've seen on the hills in the last six months, maybe I'm riding at the wrong time! Hope the CAP team can work out a solution for using the chairlift, it would allow extra runs in a session, at the moment climbing from the carpark uses up...
No, didn't want to waste time in the queues either when I can ride to the top in 30 minutes which makes a good warm up. My new trick is to ride up Worseley's Rd and track, then go into CAP uphill track for last bit, ride a downhill to the mid point then climb back up and go around to Loess Rider.
