@BiGJZ74 you're spot on. Have family down in So CA and they can see all the ships anchored off shore for months. The longshoreman unions have been playing with the whole Covid business. Consumables like chains, freewheels, tires, tubes etc have been difficult at best, impossible most of the...
There's lots of talk about bike supply and parts the world over. FYI - one of the many local Trek shops in my area has now 4 high end carbon frame 9+ models on the floor! I was shocked to see the bikes this weekend. Specific shop is in Alamo, CA. It's a Trek company store, of which they have...
That's an understatement! Water and mud have to be the worst enemy for any of these bikes. Then if using high pressure to clean them off only adds to the meltdown. However, that English countryside does look like amazing riding. Especially when conditions are ripe!
Sure enjoying my Rail...
Anyone else following this event in Monterey CA this weekend? All things bicycle. Lots of new products and manufactures showing off goods. One eMTB I particularly like was the Swiss brand called Flyer been manufacturing ebikes for 26 years! Lots of video links sharing the fun. Not sure when...
Pretty surprising the difference such a small change can make. Bike came with it in low position but changed to high and like the quicker steering. Coming from an old 26" EX9 that darted like a cat this was a big change. It's still slow steering but better for me in the high slot. Nice...
Thanks for mentioning that, as 4 nm is bit more than finger tight. Not use to thread-less steer tubes. These are so easy to take apart it's easy to think they need more torque to keep things together. Also nice that the torque values are printed on the part. Sure simplifies things.
Task done yesterday but only tested it around the house. Seems quiet so far. Kind of surprised at the size of the bearings. Was thinking maybe they'd be tapered and much larger. Often forget I'm working on a eMTB not a moto. Seems these bikes are going to take some regular attention to keep...
Thanks everyone for chiming in. Don't mind bit of wrenching which these bikes seem to require just hope it holds up to my use. Sorry that @IanB-UK has had so many issues. Basic parts supply may not be readily available for months or maybe a year or more.
Finished repacking the headset...
Best tip for me was leaving the freewheel gears on for leverage and letting the assembly sit overnight with a few drops of Kano Kroil penetrating oil to seep into it. Next morning it popped right off.
Didn't answer the question at first crack - wasn't a hater, just a denier. Now a believer. As the old cereal commercial used to say, "try it, you'll like it."
Some have with a headset grease and reassemble. I may get to that tomorrow but....
Thinking this trough, most of these bikes are pretty new, bearings are installed and might not be fully seated when new or have some amount of play which only becomes noticeable after some use. With the added...
Thanks for sharing. That's more pronounced than mine but it's been progressing pretty fast. Noticed it made sounds even when you weren't pedaling. Was thinking it might be the chain ring lock nut but if not pedaling can't be that or anything with motor or drive line. At least that's my...
Wife and I both rented eBikes while on holiday in Corsica. The bikes were typical rental bikes not well maintained but performed so well and we we had so much fun the idea was planted. Conversing with couple bike shop owners at a party weeks later heard them talking about the change in...
@GrantMeThePower did you happen to read the post about greasing the headset? I'm going to do this as see if that's the cause? I'd wondered about the battery as well but it really seems to be coming from the headset. Did you take the video down? Be interested in viewing if you still have it.
