Sounds really good. My kids look to be carrying a bit of weight anyway so just added that link to my basket before I go through TopCashBack :) . Thank you.
Hopefully it will arrive this week, as the weather is picking up nice as we come out of lockdown here. I'm also in the middle of prepping...
Agree with BeBiker on going for a 38T. This fits perfectly with the chain guide and will see you pedal to about 27mph, as opposed to 22mph. The bigger chain ring has not had any negative effect for myself on climbing hills.
I got mine on Ebay...
Rims are already taped up and ready to go.
I'm away from home for the next few days with work, so can't check the tyre. However, I don't think it's a tubeless.
I opted for the Maxxis Ardent in the link below...
38T is much better suited overall to this bike. I have a seriously steep and long hill for about 200m at the start of my ride and I can still pull it in 3rd gear, as it would on the old 34T chain ring. Very good modification and thanks to @BeBiker for the heads up. :)
Hi, no. The 520 is still on the original tyres (Hutchinson Cougar). These are much smaller than the tyres on your 900.
The rear tyre was facing the wrong way when it arrived, which I was intending to turn around. However, on our first ride out it punctured about 200m from home on our return...
I couldn't get the chain ring off and didn't have the tool to pull the crank arm off. I had it changed by a local repair shop near where I work for £5, which was cheaper than buying a puller.
I didn't consider that the new chain ring would slip on easier though. If I did, I think I would have...
Had our first proper ride out together today and the 520 performed really well.
Mostly trail and cycle paths.
I noticed before we left that the rear tyre rotation was facing the wrong way, but decided I'd sort this out tomorrow.
Riding back and about 100 metres away from home, rear puncture...
I think this could work. I have a 520 here and the rims are noticeably thinner.
Back wheel is fitted with 9 gears on the 520.
Front wheel has a quick release fitted, but the bottom of the forks (Rockshox XC30) has lugs at the bottom, where as the Rockshox Judy fitted on the 900 has a through...
Weather was good today and had the afternoon off work.
First proper ride today on the new Maxxis Ardent over mixed terrain.
The mountain tracks and forest were still very wet and muddy from the rain last week, so perfect for trying out the tyres.
I can honestly say that they are much better...
Some of the purists are shitting their pants about these, but I think they are a stunning spec and quality build.
If you have enough pocket money to be able to afford to do competitive rallying, then these cars are a no brainer.
I want one ... ?
This is while static in my garage and was just for comparison to see the height difference now that I have changed the tyres.
Basically, the bike is definitely lower with the 2.40 tyres fitted. ?
With the original tyres, I had 1 foot flat on the floor and the other on my toes while straddling the crossbar. With the 2.40 Maxxis, I can now put both feet on the floor.
Think most of my little tweaks/mods are now done. List to date is: Ergon Saddle, Raceface Ride Pedals, Deathgrips, 38t Chain Ring, Maxxis Ardent Tubeless Tyres and finally a RockShoxs QR Front Maxle.
I can now fit the bike in the back of the car much easier that the front wheel will quickly...
Hi Alan,
Looks like you had a good ride, fair play.
Noticed this while putting my Wife's bike together last week, as had to disconnect to route the cable better. Was actually thinking of putting a small section of Heat Shrink over it at the time. Will definitely keep an eye on that.
Without...
Yes, makes a good bike stand. Need a bigger garage to be honest, so I can put more rugs down... :)
It's having a little bit of winter tinkering now. Couple of bits off in engine bay at the moment getting powder coated.
Recently swapped the bucket seats out and also fitting correct wheels on...
Bike arrived and assembled yesterday. Quite a few differences to the E-ST900. Basically, looks like every component except the frame, saddle, pedals and handlebars.
Immediately changed the display over to MPH instead of KPH by holding the + & - buttons together. To come back out of this menu...
If this is a question for me, then no I didn't.
Haven't been out in it much lately to tell the truth, as my wife has been on it, while I ride my old normally aspirated Saracen. It's actually dry this week, but the weather is -3 deg at the moment during the day and I think that's in all week...
