What are emtbs best at? Climbing. So, have enduro style courses with * gasp * significant climbing sections. Otherwise, it's just going to be like analog racing, with non top tier pilots.
The main drawback is the significant cost it adds. Most people don't appreciate the difference, so it'll be a while before a major manufacturer risks a product line speccing them. As motors keep getting more powerful, they'll become more necessary to keep from burning through drivetrains.
Your bikes are designed to be trashed, don't worry about it. Learn to either lean it up against a rock or tree, or lay it down without scratching it, it's not difficult. Having a kick stand on a mtb or emtb is inviting a trip to the ER, they can deploy when you don't want them to and pole vault...
There are only few companies making wool blend liner shorts, but quite a few making wool jerseys, which are my favorite. I normally don't wear cycling jerseys on mtbs, just shirts and inner top layers I like. Cotton, silk and wool variations. Can't stand 100% plastic clothes personally from a...
If you ride in flats, "riding" sandals are easy to come by. And cheap. ;)
I've seen ultralight bike tourers use Crocs too, they are awfully light and good around camp......
Same. Is the OP suggesting that their placing against acoustic bikes is relevant somehow? Did the other emtb guys run out of juice and you caught them in the end like the tortoise or did you get lapped into oblivion?
Same. You can buy mounts cheap on ebay.

No padded shorts???
Jokes aside, I wear POC shorts with hip and sacrum pads on almost every ride under my baggies. After decades of crashing, I've figured out that when I come off I land on my hands first, then knees, then hips. Rarely elbows, so I don't bother with elbow pads.
I've got Sun Race cassettes on a few bikes and they're fine. I've given up buying $$$$ cassettes a while ago, it's fine when they come on a bike, but I don't notice enough difference for cheaper ones to rationalize the money to save a few grams, I'd rather spend money on new tires.
If no one is watching, no one is paying the cost of the events, or the purse, so talented riders will go to where the money is. Which is why road racing is where the top XC and CX riders have been siphoned of to. The biggest mtb race in the US this season paid out a whopping $5k to both the top...

E-enduro or e-xc racing could succeed on a local level where people are mainly racing for the experience and results only matter in the pub afterward. At an elite level, who would you rather watch race XC or Enduro, the best riders in the world or racers a few tiers down on ebikes? Until the...
