What width bars are you all using and why that width?

Our problem is that a lot of our riding is terrain without a lot of close tree cover, but some of it is. So we just put up with sometimes clipping trees as a penalty to be paid for increased control when going down quickish in the open. Would be nice (maybe 🤔 ) to have a button to lengthen and...

Shimano rear mech clutch causing damage?

After 3,000 miles riding South Downs for 2-1/2 years in all weather my mech was so worn with so much play that it was irreparable. The clutch was so bad that the chain hung like a wet washing line. Claggy mud mixed with chalk and bits of broken flint ground into a paste did its worst.

    New Santa Cruz model

As said before, for many riders the eMTB "sweet spot" is a well equipped 20-21kg bike with a full fat motor.

What did you buy your ebike this week?

This morning changed Mrs bars on her Rail to PNW carbon also cut to 740 as before. Out together tomorrow, wonder if I'll get "that look"? 🤔 Mrs is 5'7"/171cm with 171cm wingspan.

    New Bosch Gen 5 rumours

I've read (but can't remember where) more than one review/test where (Bosch?) 750Wh batteries don't last much longer than 625Wh batteries when theoretically 750Wh should last about 20% longer than 625Wh.

Hello everyone! Snapped chain on ebike

Ditto. Loved my job as CEO and Tech Dir until employee bean counters decided they knew better about technical stuff and wanted to buy me out (I owned 66% of the company). So took the money and walked away in 2008 having (with others) built the company from scratch since 1970. For 10 years...

    New Bosch Gen 5 rumours

In my above post I calculated about 360 grams, so if it really is 300 grams then that is even less of a weight difference.

    New Bosch Gen 5 rumours

Bosch 625Wh battery weighs about 3.5kg and because weights are roughly proportional to capacity a 600Wh battery would weigh about 3.36kg. So if the 600Wh battery weighs 3kg that's about a 11% improvement in weight which can be put down to improved packaging and slightly lighter/more efficient...

    Jumping the rise

Many people who don't need to are giving up their time to provide help for you, but you are determined that the problem is anything but yourself or your bike. You are "in denial". Don't bother to tell me to "fuck off", I'm out.

Or far cheaper (not being nasty, just realistic) reduce weight from 120kg to below 100kg.

    Night riding!

Was getting really mucky on Sunday on the South Downs, especially Kingley Vale - mud up our backs. After the very heavy rain last night it's now time to get the dreaded fugly Mudhugger rears on. Must get the Assegais off (which are turning into muddy slicks) and put Magic Mary fronts and...

    Jumping the rise

@Plummet is not saying that "the Rise is a noodly piece of crap" because it's clearly not when the rider is your weight - as you say elsewhere about your new PURPLE Orbea Rise ;) What @Plummet is saying is that when the rider is over 120kg, which is very near the Orbea Rise weight limit, when...

What width bars are you all using and why that width?

I have 185cm wingspan and have 780mm 10° backsweep 38mm rise bars with 31.8/35mm stem. Wife has 170cm wingspan and has 740mm 10° backsweep 38mm rise bars with 31.8/35mm stem. Both 2022 Trek Rail alloy. Have been shorter but slowly gone longer. Add about 3mm for our grip ends BTW.
