    Do I need riser bars?

PS, I've also swapped back from DMR Deathgrips to Ergon GE 1s (I've used them previously on other bikes and loved them) and gradually rolled my handlebars forwards and this has relieved most of the hand discomfort so I think you're on the right track with the GA 3s.

    Do I need riser bars?

Just a note of caution JP-NZ, I had a similar idea to you about using a higher rise bar to take weight off my hands and swapped the OEM 20mm bar for a cheap Nukeproof 38mm bar to try. My plan was to try it and if I liked it buy the 40mm rise Renthals that you mention. I found that although it...

What tyres? The Ultimate Tyre Thread

Wow, there's some high pressures being talked about here! I weigh 85kg and usually run 20 psi front 25 rear in my ebike. I'll bump these up by 5 psi if I'm riding a route involving a lot of road or for very rocky trails but there's no way I'm going higher than 30 rear, 25 front. That's on 2.5...

Does anyone own a waterproof jacket that's actually waterproof?

My riding buddy is on his third MT 500 and he loves them (the older ones have worn out after years of abuse). The new one he has just bought is a thing of beauty, it's really nice quality with loads of cool features and is almost too nice to get all muddy on a mountain bike. The breathability...

Does anyone own a waterproof jacket that's actually waterproof?

I ride flats on my mountain bikes but I have a pair of Shimano Goretex SPD boots that I wear on my gravel bike in winter and have the same problem that you mention with them. The best solution that I've found is to use a pair of GripGrab neoprene gaiters to seal the top of the shoes to my legs...

Does anyone own a waterproof jacket that's actually waterproof?

No, the Fox trousers are exactly the same. It's the main thing that I'm less than happy about so far. I always wear waterproof socks for riding in anything other than bone dry conditions but although my feet usually stay warm and dryish my Fivetennies always end up soaking. Seems like the narrow...

Does anyone own a waterproof jacket that's actually waterproof?

That jacket is on my shortlist (along with MT500) for using when conditions aren't bad enough to warrant the Columbia Outdry. I'm also considering the Fox Defend 3L jackets as I have the Ranger 3L waterproof riding pants and they're very good. The 3L fabric seems to be both waterproof and...

Does anyone own a waterproof jacket that's actually waterproof?

It depends on how long I'm going to be out in the rain as to what jacket I wear. In really foul conditions I wear a Columbia Outdry Reign Ex jacket which is mega waterproof but not as breathable as a goretex jacket. The problem with most breathable laminate fabrics (like Goretex) is that the...

Old Man Winter is almost here! Fatbike time?

When you think about it a fat ebike makes a lot of sense really. The usual criticism (from mainstream mountain bikers) regarding fat bikes are that they're heavy and hard work to pedal on roads and forest roads but if you add a motor the weight issue becomes irrelevant and the hard to pedal...

Old Man Winter is almost here! Fatbike time?

We sometimes get snow here in Scotland and I always try to get out for some snow riding on my fat bike. This year I have a new one to try but it's not an eeb, just a ti framed beauty! I've wondered about Bafanging my old alu fat bike frame and building it up as a winter eeb but that will...

What did you buy your ebike this week?

Galfers are on my list to try.

What did you buy your ebike this week?

They're okay yeah, I've been using them with Shimano 8120 XT brakes (and they're quite cheap compared to OEM pads). Can't comment on what they'd be like with SRAM brakes but I'd imagine they'd be decent.

What did you buy your ebike this week?

Just ordered four pairs of eMatrix brake pads from Uberbike. They're doing 20% off for Halloween if you use the code Spooky20. The discount is applied before VAT and postage so it's not a true 20% but if you were planning to buy something from them anyway it's worth having.

What did you buy your ebike this week?

It would kinda defeat the purpose of putting higher bars on. No, it was an experiment for me that I'm happy not to pursue. It may well be fine for other people or other bikes though.

What did you buy your ebike this week?

I hope that it works for you. I swapped the 20mm rise bar on my bike for a 38mm rise in an attempt to take some weight off my wrists in non technical riding situations however I found that I kept losing the front wheel on technical terrain (as I didn't have enough weight over it I assume). I...

    Bargain alert!,

Yeah, it's very good for that. The only downside is that it's not possible to easily rotate the transmission and rear wheel to make sure that all of it is clean but it's not a huge issue.

    Bargain alert!,

I have one and bought it to use as a stand for washing my bike, it works fine for that and would be okay for working on the bike as well (although it wouldn't work as well as a proper workstand that lifts the bike off the ground and allows you to rotate the pedals and transmission while doing...

What did you buy your ebike this week?

I've been using a Hydroshot for the last few years, it's an absolute game changer, a fantastic bit of kit and I'm sure you'll love it.

Looking for some user experiences with brakes..

Modulation is what you get used to, Shimanos are absolutely fine if you're accustomed to brakes that aren't spongey like SRAM. 😝😂

Looking for some user experiences with brakes..

I've always been super happy with my XT and Saint brakes on my other bikes but the new XTs on my eeb are a bit less satisfactory so far. The front lever travel is inconsistent despite multiple bleeds and changing pads (twice) and swapping to a thicker rotor (220x2mm from 200 x1.8mm). My next...
