I have one of the new stumpy evo's, the rear suspension design will be horrible for a plush bomber ebike IMO. The Evo is more a scalpel, extremely fast bike (sometimes too fast for me) but extremely exciting at the same time.
I have put a 170mm coil (smashpot) 36 up front and extended stroke...
Front centre is another measurement few understand.
Specialized with their stumpy Evo, new enduro and demo have moved away from the traditional S-xl sizes and now have s2-5 depending on the model. It’s basically a reach meaurement. Some may like a smaller more nimble feel and go for the...
Enjoying the mullet setup too. 2.5 maxxis assegai up front on 29er.
Going to a 2.6 Tyre up back is even better. Lowers the bottom bracket and slackens the head angle that tiny bit more. I didn’t like the vague feeling with the 2.8’s. Too wallowy and I could burp them without too much effort...
I went with the pnw remote. Works great. The transfer for me is so much better than the reverb. I have had really bad experiences with that dropper on other bikes (4 warranty claims in a year) so I thought I would get rid of it early on and get a couple of hundred bucks for it. Plus the...
I have the smashpot conversion on my ‘analogue’ bike (19 stumpjumper Evo) with a fox 36. It’s single handedly well worth doing. Small bump sensitivity and hence grip is huge. The hydraulic bottom out actually works brilliantly and with 120ml of oil service intervals are reduced.
Finding the...
The fox transfer 170 doesn’t fit as I tried here in the shop. Transfer 150 works well. Motor our job however.
You are after a small insertion depth dropper, I would look at the one up components. That goes to 180, low depth and can be shimmed to achieve the desired drop if 180 is too much.
Anyone have issues with their motor cutting out for a second or so intermittently? Only happened since I fitted the bad ass box. Most likely magnet placement?
For reference, 2019 Merida e160 900e with Shimano steps e8000
I looked into it. I’m a big fan of the fidlock system and use it on my other bikes but it doesn’t work inside the main triangle of the Merida.
In the end I went with this option as it’s just enough water for a 2hr ride and holds my keys, multitool and phone. I honestly can say I don’t notice...
I ordered one last week! Should be here by Wednesday mate.
In love with this bike. I haven’t touched my stumpjumper since getting this bike.
I put a 150mm kashima fox transfer on today along with a pnw components lever. So much nicer that the rubbish reverb.
You need to drop the motor...
Spring = linear ratio (ignoring progressive springs)
Air = progressive ratio
Now we got the physics out of the way here are the pros and cons in breif.
Coil
Pro - supreme small bump performance and grip, longer service intervals, no stiction.
Con - linear by design, if the frames kinematics...
I was holding out to see what the new KenEvo would be, or bite the bullet and get the top spec commencal. In the end nothing really blew me away besides the yt decoy and even then that was $12000 Australian dollars and a looooong wait.
In the end I purchased a runout Merida E160 900e for...
Yeah I’m 6’1 with long legs so even a 150 post for me is going to be sticking out the frame quite a way. 150 transfer should work for me. The kashima would looks great with the black/gold on the rest of the bike (900e)
One up have a 180mm that would be even better but insertion depth may be an...
The resurgence in coils on trail bikes has meant some developments have been made to suit linear kinematic designs.
Best I’ve ridden is the EXT storia with hydraulic bottom out. They are a work of art, with a price to match!
MRP and race only springs have bought out progressively wound...
Out of interest. What is your drop on your Merida? Mine is only 130mm but the spec should be a 150 reverb. I think the shop may have swapped it out for the short on as it was an ex demo. Bit pissed off.
Ideally I’ll just replace with a fox transfer in kashima and have the looks and reliability...
It’s fit-grip on the new performance series.
Completely different damper to the old grip and IMO Better than fit4 and way less maintenance.
I have the grip2 36’s on my Merida which are Ebike editions. . I also have a set on my stumpjumper Evo. There is little to no difference in them at all to...
