So I've found an even more reliable method to generate the rattle - just grab the top of the cassette and pull back and forth.
Tested on 2 Rails:

I think it's safe to conclude all of them...
Both of these categories can co-exist, there is no need to try and convert the masses to one side or the other. It's awesome that we now have more options and it's only going to improve the tech and competition.
It felt like we were finally making progress on the elitism issues of analog vs...
I see a lot of confusion and conjecture about the bosch rattle, what it sounds like, how loud it is, what conditions cause it etc.
I think I've found a way to recreate the rattle noise on demand, by agitating the chain ring quickly back and forward...
Did you test without the battery to rule it in or out indefinitely? It kind of sounds to me you are hearing the standard Bosch rattle noise that all the Gen 4 motor's make...
You can recreate the Bosch rattle on right now - just grab the chain ring and quickly move it backward and forward - if...
May as well do the chainring rattle test too before you head out again so that you know what the normal notorious bosch rattle sounds like. See post #12.
The bosch rattle can be replicated on demand - just grab the chain ring and move it up and down, roll the bike back and forward a bit then try again if you aren't hearing it. On my carbon rail the noise travels up the frame and sounds more like a cable clicking type noise than a clunk.
That...
Is it fairly straightforward to install? Looks like it just sits loose between the mount and the battery is that right? and did you need to adjust the top mounts to allow for the extra space the spacer take up?
Would also be interested to know if it changes the acoustics of the usual bosch...
Maybe a dumb question but is there meant to be an open hole in the frame under the rear shock on the 2022 with thru shaft?
Is there meant to be a plug there or is it some kind of drainage?
Going to say highly unlikely at this stage. The Fuel Exe was a pretty specific project and a market gap for Trek, we might see further colabs with TQ down the line but not right now. Trek seems to have a pretty popular model in the rail and unless there were some massive financial gains to be had...
Seems like a fairly straight forward solution that bosch could develop... It doesnt need to be wireless, just to take the same cable as the current chunky remote. Surely it can't be that hard?!
Also interested in this... Would have thought buying into the smart system would allow some ability to retrofit new upgrades. Unfortunately it's looking like you are only going to get the new toys by buying a new bike.
I think the whole purpose of this category is to be more similar to riding an analogue bike with some extra assistance. You are going to be putting in more effort than the Rail for sure.
I'd expect battery range will take a few rides and cycles to calibrate properly, but i think if you are...
Seems to be a well thought out and designed bike, bravo to Trek they've certainly landed in a big way in this segment.
Agree that there is always a risk with a new motor type, particularly one as unique as this - I guess only time will tell.
I'm actually interested in the market research that...
Seems to be a perspective thing and viewing it either positive or negative, much like the Pygmalion effect of things living up or down to expectations. For the Rail in particular, the mindset going into a group test seemed to be around "I'm worried Trek has ruined this bike by increasing the...
A lot of things can cause rattling on the bike - under what conditions does it present the issue?
The well known EMTB motor rattles are generally only present if you are bombing down chunk above the limiter. If its happening at lower speeds it could likely be something else.
I recently had a...
Appreciate you posting in here Drew!
I think you have touched on a key point for most of the people here - investing in an ebike is a rather big decision and with the supply chain disruptions, it can almost feel like a gamble ordering a bike that you are only likely to see 3-6 months later (and...
