XO T-type setup

Hi folks, I recently fitted XO T-type to my bike and went out for a 9 mile ride. All seemed OK, but I wasn't sure if it was a bit loud when pedalling or if it was normal.

I've not really paid attention to drivetrain noise before and also it's my first ebike.

Today I decided to have a play with the micro adjust to see if that would make any difference, but ultimately ended up putting it back to the default setting (9).

The smallest cog is quite noisy for me, but the only way to make it quiet is to micro adjust all the way down to 1. Of course, micro adjust is universal, so that puts all the other gears out of whack.

I recorded pedalling with the bike upside down on the smallest cog and another video of another cog. Do both seem normal?

Shifting seems fine, it's just in gear noise that I'm unsure about.

Shame you can't micro adjust the gears individually, as then I could make that smallest cog much quieter.

I would probably go back through the set-up from scratch again. Mine is pretty much dead silent but it took a few tries to get it there. This drivetrain seems to be really sensitive to the set-up, if you torque it and it’s off just a bit it gets noisy.

It mostly seems OK though. Just that last 1 cog.

I'll try the setup again, but I don't know that it would improve that one cog.

It doesn't seem logical in away but, it can. I actually used a permanent marker on the my frame once I was sure I had it just right. you do know there are 2 locking positions when you set it up? It's a fairly easy setup but people make it seem like it's bam and it's done. Make sure you have correct numbers for your bike. Are you setting it up on a stand if not that might be part of your issue. Just some thoughts that might or might not help you to get it dialed in.

Yes, I did it in a stand. And mine needs the "b" setting on the key thing, which is what mine was already set to from the factory.

I also made sure the lines on the derailleur mount were all lined up and everything torqued down correctly per the SRAM video. It's just that one gear pretty much.

i was not referring to the A or b position although that of course needs to be right. There are 2 lock positions on the derailleur

Oh yes, those were right also and of course you unlock it and apply tension when you torque it up.

One of the ‘features’ of the Transmission is that you CAN set it up in a stand. There is no B Gap adjustment as the derailleur is fixed to the frame and doesn’t move depending on your sag like the old Eagle drivetrains did.

Mine worked pretty much perfectly out of the box. I used the SRAM setup app to tell me chain length, and position of the A/B switch.

I did Micro Adjust 1 click down which made it less raspy, but it was pretty good at default.

There have been reports that the T-Type won’t work correctly with certain hubs, as the placement of the cassette is slightly out of reach for the derailleur. Something to do with the spacing?

Not sure that's the case with mine. They sell my bike in a T-type option. And it all works fine - just seems a bit noisy in that top gear.

Correct there is no screw but, you pull the derailleur back line up the washer so that is setting a gap basically.
