Where can I get 27.5 plus size maxxis tyres at a reasonable price?
Had a brief look but it's a minefield & lbs had a 2.5 in for £80+ !!!!

I used r2-bike last week for a Magic Mary 2.6" and a Bosch front sprocket. Under €40 for the tyre, shipping was €9 with DHL and took a couple of days.

I’m running 20psi in a 2.6” Magic Mary Soft on a 36mm rim and it’s a massive improvement over the Nobby Nic it’s replaced.

Wow? We fitted specialised purgatory 2.6 front and slaughter 2.6 rear before our long weekend at Afan . We set off on the very rocky trails not expecting too much from these tyres and almost expecting the rear to get punctured very easily . I had my amazing rat bites fitted and japsuride had huck Norris in his identical tyres .
After 20 miles on the whites level trail confidence was growing and we were beginning to push quite hard on the damp rocky ground by the next day
By the end of the weekend and roughest rocky terain we have ever ridden on some sections we were both scoring the tyres 10/10 for the conditions , no punctures not even any burping . We had both had moments when we expected the tyre to slide away after a mistake , but they didn’t let us down .
Our rims are looking used after many rocks kicking up .
After the original high roller 2 with the double down rear our bikes had come alive with lighter tyres and the rear slaughter with its fine centre tread was giving amazing grip on the rocks roots and generally dry ground , but also behaved well on the odd muddy patch after a rainy night
The front pergatory has a larger air volume than the slaughter so gives the front a nice feel running around 20 psi or less , I was only running around 26 in the rear .
I was able to evaluate the difference between tyres well as I had only ridden some of these trails 2 weeks ago in similar dry conditions
At the current deal specialised have buy one get another half price they offer great value too . Considering also the difficulty getting anything easily in these sizes at anywhere near this price they are well worth a try . We’re glad we did
For winter use we have decided the pergatory will go to the rear and we’ll try the butcher up front , until it’s Mary time ?

Good stuff, l have always liked spesh tyres but i hate the butchers when it gets muddy consider a purg rear and hillbilly front. I really rate the hillbilly as a winter tyre

Can't suggest their the best tyre about but a limited 30miles on them (before returning the bike and being sent another makes/model with different tyres) I'm going to give some 2.8 Nobby Nic's another try, as there currently only around £20 on Tyres MTB Tyres 27.5" + - folding Online Shop | Bike-Discount
I mainly want to test if 2.8's suit my bike/fit on a 30mm rim ok..

Just come back from Afan Forest, had a fantastic three days riding with Kernow.

Before we left we went in to our local Specialized dealer, Certini. We were looking for a fast rolling setup for the rocky hard pack going at Afan.

We got a Slaughter for the rear's and a Purgatory for the front's, 2.6" with Grid carcasses and we both run inserts to help with impact damage. If you have ever ridden Afan and especially, the twin track return on the skyline loop, the longest rock garden you probably ever want to ride, you will know what a test for tyres Afan Forest really is, I think we covered approx 130 miles with 12000' ft of climbing and I have to say I genuinely cannot believe how well these tyres performed for both grip and endurance throughout the whole ride.

I think in the winter the Purgatory will migrate to the rear and I'm looking forward to trying it with a Butcher upfront. If the butcher is as good as the other two then I think I will be sticking with these as they tick all the boxes, price, performance and longevity. (see Pics)

They were on offer buy one and get the other 50%, £75.00 for a top set of tyres, bargain highly recommended.

They are a bargain for sure , I expect they will fit on a 30 mm rim but they may be quite rounded on the tread and more easily damaged by pinch punctures , , post some pics when you have them fitted ?

No our bikes were allready on 2.6 tyres . I measured the kinevo on 2.8 in the shop and the 2.6 is approx 6mm narrower .
I was chatting to guy with a kinevo and he had fitted 2.6 to it for the summer , he said it felt faster and livelier ? But I guess it had butchers on to start with which are chunkier than slaughter and purgatory

I have 2.8 minions but I should say its tyre height that makes the difference on width
2.6 MM's and 2.8 minions are pretty close in height

Agreed, if they are working no point changing. Is it me or is the cost of tyres getting ridiculous? More expensive than car tyres!

If you want expensive tyres, then fat bikes are the answer.

I'm actually pretty happy with the MM fr, NN rr combo but I'm not averse to trying something else.

Good combo for winter , keep them and do the spesh combo for summer slaughter and purgatory

3” purgatory on the front was my least favourite tyre of all time. Just changed to 2.8 Minions, but not had a chance to ride this weekend, might get down Cannock Thursday or Friday afternoon next week to see how they compare to the previous set up

Looks pretty good although it isn’t the cheapest system on the market. On that note, he did offer a forum discount code so hopefully he’ll join up soon.

Same concept as the rat bites Iam using except they run tubeless and just £18 per wheel , what’s the wieght of that system ? Not much hope the rat bites were ignored

First post. Hello all I usually frequent the KTM Forum but also enjoy riding e-mtbs. I have a Lapierre SX800 Overvolt, need to replace the tyres and looking to get as wide a tyre as I can for the rims.

From the spec of the bike it has Mavic EN 423 27.5'' 650B Disc rim has a rim depth of 21mm, external width of 28mm and internal width of 23mm.

I like Magic Marys, but also like the look of the Maxxis Shorty. Could I put a 2.6" tyre or wider on that rim?

If not looking for suggestions to fit the rims I have on the bike, want grip not longevity so soft compounds are better for me.

Current tyres are MAXXIS HIGH ROLLER II 27.5x2.4

According to Schwalbe's website, the widest tyre they recommend on a 23mm internal is 62mm or 2.44". You might get away with it, but it certainly won't be optimal. You also need to check the gap in the chain and seat stays.

I'd be looking at Magic Marys, WTB Vigilante (dry) or Warden (wet) in 2.35" or a 2.5" Maxxis of some sort as they seem to come up a little narrow. Shorty for the wet and DHR/F for the dry.
