Weird charging issue on Rise (630 battery/Gen 2 charger)

Bike is new, I ran it down and was *trying* to go best practice and charge to 80% then top to 100% the night before I rode.

4 hours took it from 10%-93%. A little higher than I'd planned. (I'm looking at the battery percentage on a Garmin so get accurate reading)

But when I tried to top it up the charger decided the battery was full and wouldn't go into charging mode (Question - when the blue light is steady is it trickle charging or doing nothing? Should I have just left it on there for a few hours with a steady blue light - I just disconnected it)

Mine an older H30 with 540wH battery. The static blue light shows it's done charging. Steady pulse means it's still charging or balancing.

I can pull mine off charge while it's still pulsing and Garmin will report 100%. Unless the charger is static though, it's not completely finished.

Have you checked on something like ST Ride app to see if that also says 100%? Not sure if the eTube app gives you a percentage?

I'm never entirely convinced by my Garmin and it's battery reporting ability. In fact, I know it outright lies sometimes.

Interesting. I've found the Garmin %age completely reliable. Garmin gives low battery at 25% now (it changed at some point) but its' exactly 20% that the on bike control turns red. The range I got out from the 93% charge was c10% less than a full battery would have given me (I rode until it was sub 20%)

I started having issues after a firmware update for the motor/ controller. Something must have changed in how the controller reports battery capacity or how the Garmin interprets the info.

If I use a range extender now, the battery (displayed on a Garmin 530) never drops below 70% and then it shoots back to 100% once the extender cut off.

It was fine before the Shimano update. To be fair I haven't checked if there's an update for the Garmin

My 530 automatically updates. Garmin are terrible at supporting older devices, even if they still sell them new - the last update to the 530 appears to be over 2 years ago. For a Garmin device it's reliable and I've not noticed any bugs, but it could do with an update to the e bike functionality (Shimano now use a 10 bar battery level which could be shown on the steps page, and you can now set up to 14 power levels - if you set more than 3 it just doesn't display anything in the mode field)
