I've had exactly the same problem...

Bike 1 year old, all good. Then error 5, error 36, then nothing. Won't power on.

Bike bought from Wiggle so I'm going to try Section 75 refund route.

I'd prefer fix it because I don't want it to go in the skip.

I've got the motor out and all connections look OK. Battery seems OK. Off/On button definitely works.

From the combined knowledge of this group is the next step to split the motor, and replace the socket board and ribbon cable?

Correct. That would be the next move. This single part fixes 90% of the problems with these bikes.

You hardly ever hear of different M510 bikes needing control boards replaced. I wonder if the batch used to make these bikes had some sort of problem in manufacturing?

Thanks CarolinaCrawler, just to be certain, it's the part in the photo below? And it doesn't need K1 Flash?

Yes. That's the part. I always contact Chilli at Changzhou Fieldebikes. Always had good service there.

Yes, you will need either the K1 or the BESST Tool to program it.
You don’t need K1 or Besst if you’re just replacing the socket board. I’ve done it. My Mythique has failed twice with water in the motor, first time was a wet corroded socket board, second was droplets of water on the internal cable connectors. I think that was a knackered bearing letting in water past the seal behind the chainring. Dried it out again and replaced the bearing. All good so far. Seal everything with grease. Use dielectric grease near electrical connections.
Cheers

I've got the chainring and spider off and the torx screws out, but I can't split the motor to get to the connector board.

Can't see whats holding it together. Any advice?

Use a fin flat head screw driver and a mallet. Look for 3 ingress points on the motor and tap the flat head screw driver in each of the three points. It will eventually start to separate. Do try not to damage the seal around the motor when separating. Otherwise, you'll either need a new one or you'll have to repair it to prevent any further moisture from penetrating the motor.

In some circumstances, the outer bearing on the primary gear can seize to the motor case through corrosion. This can sometimes make it more difficult to free. But gently pry the case off using the three points and it should come off👍🏿

Thanks for the advice.

Got it all apart and connection board out, but it looks pristine and dry. No signs of water ingress anywhere and no arcing marks.

i think I'll take the cabling and battery off the bike, connect it all up while dismantled and see what happens.
