Looking to upgrade from the standard shock to a coil and interested in the 230x60 Marzocchi Bomber CR coil shock. Just curious to know if anyone has one of these on their Rail - keen to make sure the reservoir wouldn't hit the frame.

Can't be sure on a large, but it's got a pretty big reservoir so I would be surprised if it fits.

What parts you thinking of going with mate? I'm picking up a rail 5 on Friday, had one on demo and was surprised how good it was.
Definitely need to change the stuff thats too small for me first, even on an XL they spec useless (to me) parts!!
  • Stock 750mm bars need to change to at least 780
  • Dropper is a paltry 130mm so need a 170 - 200
  • Nobby Nic tyres to something like Magic Mary / DHR2 etc
That would work so I could get on and ride straight away and not feel like it doesn't fit.

The RockShox 35 is fine for basic trails, on longer rougher stuff its not great. They have a problem with rebound damping, basically the rebound damper doesnt really do much apart from make the entire fork feel worse when you increse it.

So I will change it to a Lyrik in 160mm or a Zeb 170mm. I luckily have both so I can test them out.

Thats all it needs to really for my riding (from what I can read on paper anyway).

But I have a few more bits I could swap. Wheels / drivetrain of another bike maybe. We shall see.

Mine arrives tomorrow, I went for the purple colour.

Nice. I couldn't find the purple anywhere so I'm getting the green. The dropper at 130 is really crap, constantly catching my legs on it when I demo'd so that'll need changing. I want a one up but seems to be out of stock everywhere in 180. Putting magic Mary's front and back as well.

I think you can get the 210mm One up and it’s adjustable down by 20mm to give you 190 if that’s any good?

Probably a good thing, as now we have the new @Rob Rides EMTB theme tune :

Rob Rides the Revolution - Purple Rail

[Verse 1]
I never meant to cause you any scratches
I never meant to cause you any flats
I only wanted one time to see you laughing

[Pre-Chorus]
I only wanted to see you
Sending the purple rail

[Chorus]
Purple rail, purple rail
Purple rail, purple rail
Purple rail, purple rail
I only want to see you
Washing my purple rail

[Verse 2]
I never wanted to be your weekend rider
I only wanted to be some kind of friend, hey
Baby, I could never steal your KOM from another

[Pre-Chorus]
It's such a shame our trail time had to end

[Chorus]
Purple rail, purple rail
Purple rail, purple rail
Purple rail, purple rail
I only want to see you
Underneath the purple rail

[Verse 3]
Honey, I know, I know
I know forks are changing
It's time we all reach out
For something new, that means you too
You say you want a dropper
But you can't seem to make up your mind

[Pre-Chorus]
I think you better close it
And let me SRAM guide you to the purple rail

[Chorus]
Purple rail, purple rail
Purple rail, purple rail, wooo!
If you know what I'm singing about up here
Come on, raise your post
Purple rail, purple rail
I only want to see you
Only want to see you on my purple rail

That'd probably work.

Is the reservoir touching the frame?
Is the bump stop fully compressed?
What stroke is the shock?

Then it's a problem. You may have to reduce the stroke to 57.5mm.

How have you fully compressed the bump stop? The forces compressing it on bottom out will be far greater than you pushing down on the saddle.

Bomber CR 62.5 on an XL Rail 5 2020 doesn't fit. It's really close but I think it'll hit the downtube when bottom out bumper gets fully compressed - doesn't hit while just putting my body weight on it however.

230x60 will most likely fit. I'm going to travel down using a nylon washer.

What springrates do you ride on you coil shocks and what's your riding weight?
I think I'm going for a cheap Fox spring first, but unsure if 600, 650 or maybe even 700.
