Don’t Panic.

It’s just what my experience has been and it’s purely anecdotal.

I have sold 7 bikes with Yamaha motors and not one has had an issue.
But you couldn’t pay me to ride a bike with a Yamaha motor.

Mate, if you are seriously saying you are able to leave the bike unopened in the box for another 1/2 year, you have much more self restraint than me, that's for sure.

If it was me, that bike would have been out of the box like a bat out of hell...

Not that I really have any concrete information to base this of, but I would for sure assemble it and at least charge the battery, turn it on, try to get a small ride in and check that everything worked fine, no strange noises, that it actually do turn on etc... Unpacking in April next year just to discover something off, forcing a return of your bike at that time would majorly suck"#%alls...

Just saying...
You just made me realize that I should build and test it so I can get any issue fixed over winter (if there is any) rather than wait to test it later and possibly lose riding time in the Spring.

Thanks!

Wow, that's interesting stats Al. Not quite correlating to the views one gets from this forum. Thanks for sharing that tidbit.

So issue rate according to Al's irrefutable facts for his sample size:

Shimoano (50 sold) = 50%
Brosekn (300 sold) = 5%
BosSch (100 sold) = 1%

Makes me feel a bit calmer about having a brose equipped bike on order... Lately from this forum I've been getting the feeling everyone and their grandmothers are having issues with their Brose motors and many several times in a row with the replacement motors as well...

Yeah I don't think we can use those figures as any sort of benchmark, not from what I've seen on these forums anyway. If I knew how to do a poll I'd create one for bikes that have had a motor replaced by motor brand.

Well Al's stats work for me, I have two Shimano powered bikes, one motor has been fine but the other has had several issues and may need replacing. So there's your 50% Shimano failure rate. :)

At first I thought that would be interesting but then realised that Specialized sell maybe not 10 times all the others combined but maybe not that far off so no doubt would be a skewed comparative snapshot

Mine came with the 25km/h max assist. It should be 32km/h here in NA. Theyve answered emails and said i can find a shop with the shimano adapter for the etube project and then shimano can reset it remotely. My shop has it so thats good. Theyve talked to shimano and set that up when the shimano tech is back from vacation. Now the yt guy wants to discuss it by phone instead of email. Kind of strange customer service. Ive been patient and have done all the ground work along with the local shop. I dont think its a big cost to reset it but im thinking they should cover that. Thoughts?

If you want to fix this yourself, all you need is the Stepunlocker app and license then you can change the setting in the software in about a minute. ~$35 bucks and ur done. Stepsunlocker can do a lot of other interesting stuff as well ;)

I would but id like to do it legit within the warrantee period and im cheap so free is best. Thanks though, ill look into that in the future. Does it effect warrantee?

YT are pretty generous with that sort of thing so I'd expect them to cover it.
Thanks, i was hoping that was the case. They did say they wanted a service quote first and most likely would cover it. Just send him a pic of the reciept and they would look after it. Then the phone message that he wanted to discuss on phone rather than email kind of raised some suspicions. Ill give them tge benefit of the doubt. Theyve been good with communication until then. I told them im not in a hurry, whenever its convenient id like to get it adjusted. As it is i really only need the extra km/h getting to and from tge trails and occasionally to carry speed from a down into a climb. We dont really have smooth trails so rarely will i be climbing faster than 25

Not sure to be honest but who would know if you've used it? It has nothing to do with warranty unless you spill the beans. You see I think Shimano has intentionally tried to keep software under wraps so they can either have control of what people can access or to make money for service. Either way the unlocker software lets you skip the middleman.

I have the appointment set up. Ill have them set it up at the natural 32km/h for free and ill be happy. Ill stay tuned on peoples unlocker experiences though

Just to update- after some phone tag with Shaun at yt in cali i had my motor converted to north american max assist of 32km/h. Good guy. Easy to deal with. He touched base with shimano and my local bike shop to see if they were all set to do it. The local shop (tantrum ride co) was outstanding. They did a lot of the foot work and set it up with shimano. Had it set up proper really quick. When i picked it up at the shop they were off season slow so he helped me set up the app on my phone. So far so good/fingers crossed. The decoy is a fun ride no doubt
Im curious what people are using for their settings? I havent fiddled much yet. Thought i might increase the trail mode output

Eco was on low I think and I could not feel much difference between off and Eco, so I turned it up to max. Forgot what Trail is on currently but I either turned it up to max or it may have been there by default.
