Hi All,

I have a super deluxe ultimate C1, and am trying to make sense of the HSC adjuster.

The screenshot below is from the rockshox manual, and it states to turn the adjuster clockwise to increase compression damping and anti clockwise to decrease compression damping, but the markings (the + and - symbols etched on the shock) on the shock body imply its the other way round. I presume the manual is actally correct, and the marking are just wrong, but its very confusing.

I know on every other fork or shock its always clockwise to increase damping, anti clockwise to decrease it (as per what the rockshox manual states) - its just the markings on the shock are making me doubt things, as turning clockwise will turn the dial towards the "-" marking

Anyone know for sure?

I know, it's as it says in the manual.

And notice that the starting point is the line visible at six o'clock.
When you reduce compression, it happens counterclockwise, i.e. in the minus direction.

Thanks I figured it would be, as per usual, it just a really confusing way to label the shock itself.it Really looks like counterclockwise is more damping.

It is a little confusing.

Rather than rabbits and turtles and esoteric mathematical symbols, try to visualize what you're doing. When you're screwing the adjuster in, you're either running a needle in or increasing pressure on a spring. That decreases oil flow, which increases damping. Running it out allows more oil flow, lower pressures, and reduced damping. It's that way with compression, rebound, forks, or shocks.

Maybe this whole thing is a conspiracy perpetrated by the suspension pros, intended to keep normal people like us in the dark and perpetually reliant upon their tuning services.
