Structural Problems Canyon Spectral:ON

Hi everyone,
I have had the bike in question for a couple of months (mod. CF8 with 900 battery)
some owners have found solutions to problems that I immediately found (today the bike has about 350km)
1. bottom bracket/motor height. It really touches everywhere, with consequent breakage of the engine/battery cover and also becoming dangerous in some situations. Obviously SAG and correct suspension settings (I've been riding mtb for more than 20 years and I bought my first eMTB in 2016)
2. passage of the chain, in the first 4/5 sprockets (!!!) it touches the chain guard with evident wear of the same. And it doesn't cost pennies, it's not found in the shop next door and in the idea of keeping the bike for a while, several will have to be replaced...
I had read about these issues in various online reviews but didn't think they were that drastic.
Any solutions?

I was wondering the same but I was just going to get a nice sharp knife and cut off a couple of knobs in the hope that works

The chainstay position isn't a great design. I'd contact Canyon with pics of the damage and ask them to send out spares since you will be going through these quite often. The only other thing you can do is use an inner tube and wrap it round the chainstay.

i did it, I think I'm probably just gonna remove the top part and replace it with inner tube or smth

Updates on spare parts availability, I requested the fork locking ring, NOT AVAILABLE waiting time AT LEAST 2-3 WEEKS. A simple but necessary replacement for a very recent bike. No comment...

just an update, I removed the top protector completely and replaced it with the scotch rubber tape, it's working great and looks much better, also no more chain rub

What part is it? If it's not a Canyon oem part but a Rockshox or Fox part - why not just buy it from any bike shop?

which part your are waiting for? Acros blocklock lower crown race?

I have spectral on 2022 and rode 1500 km 99% in trails and sometimes gnarly enduro trails and I don't have to much problem with hitting ground by motor cover. I think it's just riding technique. Sometimes I rub some rock by this cover but It's nothing close to brake it. It's made of elastic plastic. I realy do not understand why did you cut this rubber on the chainstay. Yes, chain touches it on the smallest cog but who cares. It don't make any noise or resistance. After 1500 km there is no trace of wear on this rubber... It's realy good bike and this problems you shown are imaginary problems. The only real problem with this bike is squeaky carbon after first 1000 km. But to fix it you need to grease some places and tighten some screws.

Is it an profesional review? They also reviewed Canyon Torque with 2mm higher bb and it has enough clearance. Maybe they forgot to pump suspension in Spectral?

Crank clerance - yes it's not the biggest - you can read it in the specs before you buy bike if it's very important for you (bb drop). This parameter impacts handling and some bikes have bb higher and some lower. I have scratches from rocks on the cranks but I also have on my analog bike cranks.
Motor clearance - The motor from the bottom does not protrude beyond the cog, so I do not see a problem here. You probably mean the front, but it looks like most e-bikes. Yes, you will hit motor cover when you'll try ride throgh a drop too slow. But would be the same even on analogue bike. Did you broke your cover?
Plug - Disconnect It by foot? I wouldn't even be able to do that on purpose. How many times it happend to you and how many km you did?
Chain - Yes, chain touches this rubber and it changes nothing. No noise, no wear. Dirt? My bike is dirty after every ride. When its wet it's all in mud, and when dry in dust.

I ride a Spectral ON CFR LTD and Torque ON CF

Crank clerance - Changed the 165mm cranks for 160mm. No pedel strikes. Yes when I make mistake ;-)
Motor/BB clearance - I don't see the problem? I did set my rear shock at 28% sag and added extra volume token.
Plug - Disconnect It by foot? I did ride more then 5000km on my Spectral. most of the rides are medium enduro trails and once in a wile a bike park. Never had that the power plug disconnected.
Chain - Yes, chain touches the rubber sometimes. I do not see the problem. I see no wear on the rubber or chains ;-)

I prefer to ride with an 720 battery. Gives me a more playful bike. I have two 720 and one 900 battery.

totally agree with you on this..
why did you cut out the chain stays.. you could have just wrapped it.. its actually functional piece meant to be there so the rear swing arm doesn't get chain slapped all too often..


could have just slapped one of these on and called it a day.. .
as for the bottom bracket.. its definitely your riding style or u got some really really tall rocks in your area

Agree on the rubbing chain being a non-issue though I stressed about it in the beginning. I believe the sag takes it off the rubber anyways?!? 800+ miles on the bike and no wear on that rubber piece.

I have had zero issues on the battery connector. As others have said, I can’t fathom disconnecting it while riding, it seems to be a great design. I did have it disconnect once in a freak accident a few weeks ago, dude barreling down a single track I was going up, without a bell so I didn’t hear him, crashed into me. Afterwards I couldn’t figure out why my bike was off. He had knocked the connector off and my cover was askew.

I wonder if this caused damage au didn’t see. On a ride yesterday my bike made a horrible sound coming down a trail. Bike seemed ok but when I stopped 300’ later at the end, saw my battery cover was gone. Went back up the trail and got it.

Rubber piece was broken and the hard plastic is broken in front of where the cover locked into the bolts.

Canyon is OOS of the cover and no ETA yet. Big bummer…going to try to epoxy the cracked cover and tape or silicone in place.
