So after 600km on the Levo most of it being wet and muddy i’ve had to replace a chain, rear brake pads and have the motor out to clean as there was a loud creaking noise. I have also broken a rear spoke.
Is it unusual to take the motor out so often?
Should the chain be replaced sooner rather than later ? And at what % wear ?

i have never taken my motor out on my current levo but I do remove the covers to inspect and so far it seems pretty clean I found if I do the cover bots up too tight it makes them creak so now I just nip them up with a spot of threadlock, seems to work for me.
I pay particular attention to the battery plug and socket to make sure they are cleaned and dried. Something to watch out for, when you remove the plug after a ride check to see if there is any water on the face of the plug, if there is the seal is not working properly and Its worth investigating further.
I would check your chain with a gauge on regular intervals and replace as needed, they do take a beating on an ebike
one thing I dont like about my levo is the wheelset its heavy and to my engineering mind they dont have enough spokes for a heavy bike but I guess specialized know what they are doing. Anyway i replaced my wheels for some stronger lighter ones, made loads of difference to the feel of the bike

I was going to replace my chains at 0.5% wear. But the first one went 0.65%. I replaced it with SRAM pcx1 and it shifts heaps nicer. Will see how it wears.
The motor plug I used to spear the contacts with dielectric grease, but now just put a ring around the outer plug. Either way it stays dry, but gets moisture in if I don’t use it.

yes I replaced my chain with the same and I agree its nicer
my wifes bike has had to go back to specialized because the plug fit into the battery was so bad it was filling with water and not making contact so im a bit paranoid about that area

500km of it was wet and muddy and sandy riding which is very unusual here. I only used a wax based chain lube, and the chain copped it.
The shop took the motor out, but in future I will do it myself.

interesting question, it doesnt void your warranty if you take the rear mech off to clean it why should the motor be any different once you have removed the crank arms and covers its three plugs and three bolts, not exactly rocket science. might be worth asking spesh see what they say

I am about to change a number of bits on the Levo, brakes, wheels, cassette, chain.
I am not happy with brakes, the Guide R are no where as good as my old Hopes, the XD freehub I am also not happy with, so going with a Hope Shimano setup.
I am going to try the KMC e-bike chain, to he honest the PX01 was ok, just thought I would try something else.
I have taken the motor out once, easy enough job, the upper fixing had not been torqued up properly after warranty work so whilst I was doing that, gave it the once over and a clean.

i just fitted the new xt m0802 brakes, they are xt levers and saint calipers first ride with them this morning they are very very powerful but i need to relearn my braking technique after three months of trying to stop with the horrid sram brakes
keep the recipt when you buy that chain mine broke on the first ride, if that is what KMC think an ebike chain is they should maybe think again
to be honest I always go back to sram chains they seem to work the best for me and I am not a sram fan

What exactly is E bike specific about any of these "E bike chains"?
The KMC one is advertised as "triple durable"
Sounds like total bullshit to me
and it is triple durable my ass

I'm very satisfied with the KMC "EPT" chains. The anti-rust feature does work and combined with wax it's a perfect clean and efficient solution.
Cool maybe i was just unlucky

I got mine from SDJ Sports at £42

They were also selling a non EPT version , silver version at £28. But i opted for EPT as that was original version on bike. Hope I don't need it for some time yet, only 160 miles on bike.
