Shimano e8000 E10 Error

No. I'm now regularly cleaning the contacts in the battery and in the battery support with Isopropyl alcohol. Sometimes I can do a whole 2 hour ride without any errors. Other times I start getting errors after riding for about an hour. I turn the power off and turn it back on and the error goes away, but generally, once I start getting errors, they happen every 5 or 10 minutes, so it's a pain in the ass. Sometimes I ride downhill trails with the power off, just to avoid hearing the dreaded error bip.

have you contacted canyon about it? do they know what the issue could be?

In my case, the bike is a Commençal, but no, I haven't contacted them as my bike is past the two year warranty and I'm still trying to fix this myself. I have a friend with another Commençal who has the same problem. His bike is still within the warranty period and Commençal sent him a DHL label so he can send the motor to a specific Shimano dealer in France. I'm waiting to see what they say.

Perhaps other guys can contribute, but I get the feeling that most people that start having these E010 errors end up with a new motor from Shimano. It's my bad luck that I only started having problems after the warranty had expired.

I think the bike manufacturer is immaterial as far as E010 is concerned, it's purely a Shimano problem. I've been getting it on my Pivot for 6 months now, all contacts have been cleaned and it runs great for 20/30/40 miles, then.. 'ping'....and the b****y thing fails again. Similarly changing the chainring size appeared to cure it for quite a while but it's back again now. With my fault, it appears to initially fail E020 before rapidly changing to E010 - diagnostics only show the E020 fail Turning the motor off and on again resets the fault for the remainder of my ride the majority of times but sometimes it fails almost immediately after riding off. It's an even bigger pita with Di2 because as soon as it fails, your gears go with it:( . It's now become quite dispiriting as I'm rapidly losing confidence in taking the bike too far afield in case I end up stranded miles from base. I've exhausted the LBS route and Madison in finding a reliable cure and Pivot don't appear interested in offering help so any other suggestions for a cure would be gratefully received

It's worth contacting Commencal, on some other forums I've seen Shimano help with repairs even after the warranty has expired.

Otherwise, you could dismantle and attempt to fix yourself.

Or buy a new motor, there are some sellers on ebay. Maybe you can get some money for the old broken one as someone else might try to fix it or scavenge it for parts?

Thanks for that information robbydobs. I'm still at the stage where I'm trying to solve the problem myself. I've tried cleaning the contacts of the battery and battery mount before every ride and the next step will be take out and check the battery mounts and cables and to retighten everything afterwards. If none of that works I'll contact Commençal.

Hey,
Started getting e010 error last week too.
Meta Power 29 signature 2019 with e8000 motor
Cleaned all the connectors, I have two batteries, same error with both... batteries seem to be locked in place while on frame so no play.
Contacted commencal today to see what they say as it's still under warranty
I'm 2100km on the motor
Will try to get the bike next week to a service to see if I get a more detailed description of the error with etube for pc.
Will get back with any info

I have the same bike. I posted earlier with the solution that worked for me over 18 months ago. Remove small side cover on motor. Remove connectors to motor using shimano tool. (display, batter, magnet sensor) Turn bike upside down. Spar contact cleaner liberally up into connectors to flush any small debris. Replace connectors using shimano tool until they click in and replace cover. Do same for connectors to display on handlebars. You can also test the motor ports as there is a spare and swap the connectors on that. Good luck. It was a Commencal suggestion .

Thanks, already done that after I read this thread.
Also removed the display unit from handlebars and tested it with the small cable that connects the shifter to the display, used it to connect the display to motor directly(on both input, initial one and di shifter) to avoid any pinch/issue that might be with the internal cable that connects the display to the motor. Same issue.

Have you tried doing a full components test with the PC LINKAGE UNIT SMPCE2 SHIMANO E800? Where are you located? I have one if you are nearby else try a local Shimano stockist?

That is my next on the todo list, but was unsuccessful so far. I live in Romania/Brasov.. there are a couple of bike service shops that can do this and will investigate more.

A bit far to Dorset UK. The unit can test everything as installed or you can plug it into each individual component only.

In my case, I contacted Commençal and their After Sales Service is simply fantastic.

They organized a pick up of my motor through DHL and a week later they sent me a brand new motor.

Managed to get it tested at a local bike service... it looks like an error with the torque sensor, they say is a claim for replacement under warranty... got a reply back from Commencal as well and will see if I can solve the issue through them , they seem to have the E8000 unit in stock ; finger crossed this will not last too long. Will update as things progress... thank you all for all the replies.

Commencal support was really fast on this.
Got a DHL label to pick-up the engine and battery lower mount and send it to Shimano FR , will send it tomorrow and hopefully will get things up and running soon.

So far am very pleased with Commencal customer support, they replied really fast.
They also mentioned will pay for the cost of the diagnose I had to do to narrow down the issue with the bike as long as I have an invoice , they charged me around 50 EUR at the local authorized shimano service center to diagnose the issue and Commencal mentioned will take care of that too .

Will get back once I have more news.

Yesterday received a new motor unit from shimano. Just want to say that the guys at commencal were pretty fast in solving the issue, the long time wait was with dhl service , once the motor unit arrived at shimano France in three days they sent another motor to me.
Put it on the bike yesterday and ready to roll ... hope this one will take more kilometers...
Thanks again to all of you for your replies.
Ride safe!

Hi from Spain, my MMR Kore is at the shop for the same problem (this is the second time in a month), Shimano should study the case and solve the problem because Bosch motor is definitely more solid. Lets see what Shimano answers this time...

l've done 1400 miles on my Kona Ebike (E8000 motor) since l bought the bike in March.
lt was a NOS 2020
l've had no trouble with the motor at all, and it's been ridden in all weathers, l've washed the bike with a hose at least twenty times (being careful around the motor but still had
to hose the mud off)

l've had the plastic cover off the side of the motor once, and could see the connectors inside, but l didn't touch them.

All l've done with the motor is spray it with GT85 on the outside and into any cracks round the edges of the plastic covers

Commencal meta power 2019.

Did the first 6000KM fine.
Suddenly the Odometer reset and we restarted at 0KM.
Now I am at 1390 km and constantly get e10 and w013 errors. Cleaned everything a million times. Tried a different display. Sometimes a get a couple of e10 errors pr ride but mainly its a constant issue.

Very strange that we get no info from Shimano to narrow this down.

Mine threw two e10s during a 46k ride yesterday - no obvious pattern, but maybe damp or debris in connectors - so time for a good cleanrun the diagnostics with SMPCE2 and see.

Given e10 is a general connection error, without other fault codes or replacing every item ie cable, switch, display, motor one by one it could be difficult to pinpoint the issue.

My e010 errors were eventually fatal. Not a connector issue. Get the manufacturer involved. If in warranty, you should/might get a new motor...

l sprayed everything with GT85 including around the edges of the plastic motor covers, not sure where the GT85 ends up when you do that but l've never had an error code despite riding in torrential rain.

So after a thorough dry and clean of all connections, I connected the SMPCE02, installed the latest v5 of etube ride professional on the laptop and ran maintenance diagnostics against switch, display, battery and motor. All passed.
Went for a test ride all fine.
Went for a big Ridgeway ride and 15 minutes in first e010 when on tarmac. Got 15 to 30 more usually on smooth to gravelly trails and tarmac. Not over any rough stuff. During lunch break it did it twice just stationary not being touched.
Got it home. Took off plastic side cover again. Removed display and speed sensor cables and blanking plug. Hair dryer, upside down flushing with contact cleaner and used a fine paint brush to ensure ports clear.
Ran full diagnostic, all clear. Bike the e010 while on stand. Pulled off error log and the error is e01020 sensor abnormality detected in drive unit.
It's out of warranty and about 1600 miles. I did notice it under read the mileage on the trip meter for the ride as I did 33 miles on my Garmin fenix but only 25 on the 8000 trip display.
Any ideas before it gets sent to Madison? Will also contact Commencal

You've not had a new motor previously?

There's a company in the U.K. who specialises in ebike motor service and repair.

Original motor.
Thanks that's on my list of things to try. My LBS would send it to Madison for me.
Would like to fix it myself if possible, so asking the community.
Will also contact Commencal.
