I've been riding bikes for years (current bike: canyon nerve AL+), but have recently been considering getting an emtb. I'd initially been looking at getting a used bike something around £2K mark, but stumbled across this deal and wondered what the consensus is...

From what I can tell Rayman is a fairly new brand set up by some of the Haibike founders. I'm not sure if it's a unique frame design of their own or a rebranded off the shelf frame. The components look fairly mid range with some wheels i've never heard of? + Yamaha PW-x3 motor.
Is it better to go for a brand new with warrantee but lower spec. Or a higher spec but 3/4 years old and used ?

according to their website, Raymon have no UK dealers, and I would guess that Pauls Cycles have picked these up in some sort of a fire sale (I've an idea Raymon still have some ties to the financially troubled Pierer Mobility group). It's got to be one of those "too good to be true" scenarios, and I imagine if you were to give PC a call they'd give some sort of explanation, I'd certainly be wondering what sort of customer support is going to be available. If you were to up your budget a bit closer to £3k, you could get a used Gen3 Specialized Levo Comp with some of the 2-year transferable warranty remaining, but make sure the seller has the original receipt. If you're in Hampshire you can't be that far from Berkshire Bikes in Crowthorne who offer an amazing service to Specialized owners, even if they didn't buy the bike from them. Once out of warranty, a new 700Wh battery can cost around £600 via Specialized assisted purchase scheme (again, you need the original receipt) and motors can be repaired (water ingress is a common thing for most e-bike motors) at e-bike motor centre in the New Forest typically for around £250.

If you check out the GasGas ECA, it's the same bike rebadged over to the GasGas name. When you look closely at the GasGas frame, it still has the Raymon logo engraved into the rear of the seat tube visible through the paint, and the handlebar etc just have GasGas stickers over the Raymon logo, so it is definitely Raymons design. All part of the same company. Can't comment for support in the UK though.

EDIT, just seen your other thread and that you have already worked this all out. I have the GasGas version hence finding all the covered up Raymon logos.

Raymon have released their 2025 range a few months back and pretty sure Specialized warranties aren't transferable .

..... pretty sure Specialized warranties aren't transferable .
from their warranty policy document:
  1. If you are a subsequent owner, meaning you are the second or later owner, and not the original retail purchaser, the following applies:
    • 2-year Warranty from the date of original retail purchase for the following Specialized-branded Products: frames and framesets, including paint and graphics, components, equipment, shoes, helmets, and Roval wheels. This also includes co-
branded suspension parts such as BRAIN equipped forks and shocks, and motors and other drive system components on electric bicycles.
    • Specialized-branded batteries equipped on electric bicycles: 2-year Warranty from the date of original retail purchase or up to 300 charging cycles, whichever occurs first. The batteries are designed to retain up to 75% of their original capacity during that time

Hi all, can anyone give me some feedback/reviews on the raymon trailray 160e. I am seriously considering it. 40 years old, returning rider, I was looking at entry level/price trail bikes, but at £2k this looks like a bargain. Is it to good to be true? Cheers

It's a legit brand I haven't tried it but here in Norway it's a pretty high end boutique selling Raymond bike's Hai bikes Scott Norco and trek Raymond and haibike has similar prices with similar components and here it's five years warranty on everything because it's our consumer laws the store is called spin and have a good reputation I don't think they would ruin that to make some quick money on a bad product the trail community here isn't very large and the rumors about spin selling bad stuff would would spred like wild fire... I'm not saying I guarantee that it's top notch but I would not be worried about it. I would rather buy that than a used bike. I saw someone in the tread say that the wheels ain't good but it's very cheap hope fortus 35 with pro 5 hubs at merlin at the moment you might not get the color on the hub you want some of the colors are empty sold out but a trail ray and 250 pounds you get a hope wheelset with proper width and 108 contact points which is healthy for the motor.. Do that instead of a old levo my old levo had problems all the time since I bought it I'm on the fifth or sixth motor second battery and at least fourth new display and I can't control it it will always get into turbo mode by itself..
I don't know the Yamaha motor it's one of the few motors I haven't tried but it's no doubt that Yamaha is a legit brand with a long history in motocross etc so I would expect it to be decent but to make sure look it up on YouTube and see what other people are saying and make a tread or here after watching a few videos.
I think you really want that bike 😀 and look if it's turn out to not be what you expected atleast it wasn't half a year middle class salary like many other bike's.. You are fourty years old you had a break from riding you probably not going to ride it like your same was Sam pilgrim 😂 and you will probably love having a electric bike and get out on the trails and have the freedom of easy mobility.. Anyways I would love to hear about you later no matter what bike you go for.. Just do your research so atleast you did your best to know to what you are buying and won't regret that you didn't do your best.. (my choice right now would be ep6 motor but I live in a harsh icy climate)

Cheers for the message mate. You know what, I couldn't find anything negative about the bike or brand so I took the plunge and ordered one.

Yeh being 40, returning rider and having had a few health issues that stopped the running I was doing has me really interested in the accessibility the ebike will provide. I hope I end up more included to get out more often even just when I have an hour spare as I'll get further I guess. I will let you know how I get on with the bike when it's arrived! Cheers

Hi there

New member here, recently taken delivery of a Trailray 160 so thought I would share thoughts here as the other thread isn’t that helpful about what the bike is actually like.

Picked mine up from Paul’s Cycles a couple of weeks ago, Paul’s is fairly local to me and I’ve always had good experiences buying from them. I’m now up in the lakes on holiday so have had a chance to put some proper riding on it.

First ebike but I’ve ridden a fair few before on hire or borrowed from mates. I was pretty much the last hold out in my riding group and the price on this was too good to resist, particularly on cycle2work.

Quality is really good, well put together and the red colour is lovely. Spec is incredible for £2k, but obviously has some limitations at that price level. Was ready to hate the SX groupset but it’s fine, clunky but will do until it wears out. Brakes are not as nice as Shimano / Hope, but they work fine and the 200mm rotors help stopping. Fork and shock are excellent. Tyres are great, wheels are heavy but ok and decent internal width.

Only things I’ll change soon are the bars - front end just feels a bit low so some risers will help - and a longer dropper. The stock one is 150mm whereas I have 240mm on my bike.

Rides really well, it’s slack and long travel with a long wheelbase (mine is an xl) so not great on switchbacks but great on tech and straight line stuff. I’m not much of a jumper but got my wheels off the ground a few times. You do feel the weight, it’s a heavy beast but I think that comes with the territory.

I’ve chipped it with a speebox 3.3, works well. Bit of a faff fitting it but I managed and I’m not particularly tech savvy.

Range is good, just back from 20 miles with 880m climbing and two bars left (out of 4) and caning the last few miles on turbo to beat the light. Motor feels powerful but I haven’t got much to compare with.

Overall I’m really delighted with it, I’m 42 with kids so carving out time on holiday for riding is not always easy, today I’ve managed to ride up from our hotel to whinlatter, do both loops and ride back down in an hour and a half - would have struggled to do that on my bike.

Hi mate, thanks so much for this. You've boosted my confidence, especially as mine is arriving tomorrow! Had to get the white as they aren't expecting to get large in red again.

Your review is as I was hoping, being great for th price. I get that all the components aren't top spec but as long as they do the job they can always be switched out for better spec in future.

Yeh definitely, finding time with a family is difficult, but I hope with the emtb I'd get out even for the odd hour more often, whilst then hoping to get day trips to the peak district etc.

Well, happy riding mate, I'd be happy to hear more reviews as you get more miles done. Enjoy the lakes. Whinlatter is on my hit list!

No worries, hope yours works out well. They had some of the white ones in the shop when I collected and they also looked great. The guy at Paul’s said they were selling up to 40 a day and they are expecting to get through all the stock pretty quick. Happy riding anyway!

Hi, could I please ask how tall you are? I’m about to order one but at 6ft1 184cm I don’t know whether to go large or XL. Cheers
