Range of Levo 29” 2018

I have borrowed a Specialized Levo 29” MY2018. Its a nice bike, however I seem to get arround 2hours of riding on it using it for gravel and single track. Is this what to expect? I use the highest power mode about 50% of the time and mode two the rest.
Would the range improve much if i invest in the better battery with over 500wh?
Will a Turbo Levo 2019 battery with 750 fit?

Yes, that is what to expect if you are using those modes. To get more distance you need to manage your battery better to give you more range. Use Eco mode more and less Trail mode or Turbo mode. This will give you more ‘hours’ in the saddle.

However, As you stated, it is a borrowed bike so you are probably doing what I did when I first got my ebike.... ‘riding it like you stole it’. That feeling ‘for me’ personally doesn’t go away however, reality kicks in and if you want more distance and more time riding then you will have to do the battery management thing or do shorter rides.


The 2019 battery will not fit your 2018 Levo. However, you can purchase a ‘range extender’ which @Stumpy did a while ago. The one he purchased increased his capacity to over 750 Watt hours. There are also other options out there.

Just as a reference, yesterday I did about 35 km with 850m elevation, using most trail and eco with a few bursts of turbo. I did use 46% of the 700Wh battery on a 19 Levo. It is also very important to use the gears properly and adjust the assistance level using an app (Mission control or Blevo) to what suits you

I did 22km yesterday used 46% battery 660m climbing but I weight 17st in my riding gear

You’ll love the Brose motor and being able to tune it infantly for your needs. They go alright too on the trail. I smash mine through everything and it comes back for more.

We recently got our first ebike ....2018 Levo....(just selling the last of our YT Capra's to fund all this). We need to two levo's as they are for me and my wife.

The plan is currently to buy another 2018 levo and also a spare battery to share on long rides in Wales......Total outlay £9k

However, we did try a 2019 levo and liked it. I am not sure that i could tell that it was a huge LEAP forward from the 2018 (apart from being a looker).

So if we now buy a 2019, we lose the battery sharing ability and the costs escalate as well......

can i ask what you would do.........is the 2019 really worth it???

I am actually considering not getting a Levo just because of this because I am sure I will need an extra battery with me.
I would go with two 2018's, you should get a good % off the price since it is "last years model". In Sweden I get the 2018 Levo comp for 4200€ when list price is 5600€.
The 2019's have been jacked up even further than 5600€.

Surely you will both need it at the same time?
If it was me, I would definitely go for the two 2019 model option.

The RRP on 2x base model '19s is less than your listed '18 bikes. They're new, with warranty, and just better in every aspect. Having spent some time on both, I wouldn't get the previous model.

I just tried a 2019 Comp Carbon Levo, what a bike. Totally different than the 2018, it felt much more like a normal MTB and the power really was much more apparent.
I would strongly recommend a test ride so you can see for yourself.
I will try a Canyon Spectraln next week to see if I can live with a bike at half the price of a Specialized.
Re the S-Works 2018 vs 2019, here you have the biggest difference, 30% more battery kapacity and a lighter bike.
