i just found an old post that motivated me to buy my first Ebike

Hi,
I have 3 ebikes and the range varies a lot depending of the models, batteries and rider.

- Specialized levo, 2017 (FSR): About 30 miles on tough MTB rides around here in CO for an average rider. I pushed it to 40 several times, and it went as low as 19 with one rider (he was not used to the altitude and kept it on high all the time). On flat land, I can probably go 70 miles.

- Specialized Levo 2018 (FSR Comp): The biggest difference is in climbing, where the extra torque of the 1.3 engine, helps using less assistance. I would probably say, 40 miles on the same MTB trails. I have not done much flat terrain with this one.

- Haibike allmntn 5.0 2017 (Yamaha motor): I get more range on this bike than the Levos. The same tough MTB trail will leave me with a half full battery. Again, I think it's due to the higher torque provided by the Yamaha motor. On flat, the display shows a range of 109 miles. I have done a couple of 60 - 70 miles rides with this bike and still had some decent battery life (20%).

I agree. Still over 3,020 kms my 2017 0 problem never emptied the 500 Wh battery many rides over 4 hrs. I do not know that person but i know my Haibike is reliable sofar and does not need a larger battery.

So you make a post to STATE that the Yamaha has better proven range than the Brose. But you agree that using only one reference doesn't actually make a conclusion ? - so ultimately your post is completely pointless, proves noting and you might as well have just made a post with a title YAMAHA containing the word YAMAHA and been just as happy.

Your evidence being that you've not flattened your battery on your Yamaha, you've ridden for 4 hours and your bike fits your purposes so it should fit everyone elses purposes and it's better than anyone elses bikes or the choices they've made ? This is backed up by the OPINION in a post on a forum by a person who is rated 3 out of 10 by his forum peers for his reliability ?

How many times does it have to be said, everyones needs are different ? One person on a Brose could outdistance a person on a Yamaha, another person could outdistance a Brose to another person riding a Yamaha. It depends how you use it, who you are, where you ride, how you ride. You get 4 hours out of your Yamaha, someone else would flatten it in an hour.

For the love of all that is YAMAHA... there is no BEST motor, they all have advantages and disadvantages, peoples choices of a bike include some of those advantages and disadvantages amongst many other things.

I did 30kms yesterday on my kenevo (bros 1.3) in 1hr 7 minutes. I used 18% of my battery and was in trail mode the whole ride.

So I should be good for a 6hr 170km ride if I could maintain the same pace.?

I rode 30 minutes in Turbo, at 26 km/h - charge left 100%. So it should easily go around the earth on one charge.

I only had 1 Ebike but from someone who had a few(different brands)
**** Yamaha motor beats the brose everyday and twice on sunday. ****

I have a Levo with the Brose motor and was able to leave my battery at home on one ride of 60km. So effectively I did not use any battery power at all.
I tried the same thing on a Haibike with the Yammy motor but had to turn around after 1km as I was totally buggered.

Honestly, Yamaha motor are really the best we can find at the moment. I went for a ride, went through 4800D+ and a 18 hours ride, no problem at all with the Yamaha motor.
But battery was not plugged in, and now I have the same quadriceps then Hulk.

I just don't see the problem. Since the world moved to 27.5 and sometimes 29" wheels, there's so much more space to carry a huge cable drum attached to the wheels which unspools as you go, no need for silly batteries. CONNECTED ! is the emtb future !

Hulk break chain. Hulk snap crank. Hulk wreck chairlift. Hulk smash KOM ..

I’m currently building a Fat bike with dual Toyota Prius motors pumping out 400 lb ft torque each. Will be powered by a Tesla battery with enough power to travel 100km. Batteries will be in a trailer featuring dual axles. This things going to be the best motor battery combo out there. It will smoke the rear tyres in 11th at 80kmh no problem at all.
Bwahahah ?

I hired a Haibike in Scotland at the beginning of July. Rode 28 miles and 760m of climbing mostly on Eco or trail and the battery had about 5% left when I returned it to the shop. My wife's Cube with a Bosch motor/battery which she ran on Emtb and turbo all day and had 30% left.
I now own a 2019 Levo Expert and as a bike it p*sses all over the Haibike which was like something from the 1980's to ride. Not sure about range but the Levo feels a lot closer to my Yeti than the Haibike whatever motor is has I wouldn't waste my money on a Haibike. Just MHO, BTW

We have both here, me-19 levo 500wh, GF 19 Liv(Yamaha 500wh) after a ride we typically end with about the same battery. One difference, I weight 195lbs, she weighs 130lbs. We also run different assists at different times. I like the Yamaha motor a lot but the brose is just a bit better. I say better because it is quieter and feels a little more natural. However, at the end of the day I would be happy with either.

My 2019 Giant Trance e +1 Pro, is my first e bike. I have had to learn from scratch since my cardiologist advised me to go to an e bike. What really hurt was having to dispose of my Scott Spark 20 which was my pride and joy. My son-in-law got a good buy. Cost him nothing, not even a red wine. Lol.
Anyway, I suspect I have put a strain on my chain wheel, chain & cassette whilst I was learning, but have now learnt to ease off the pedal power momentarily when changing up. I'm sure the componentry appreciates it too.
I now class myself as an intermediate who cares for his bike although to be honest, I only lubricate the chain weekly when some do it after each ride.
I love my Giant although the RideControlOne needs a lot of work as a NZD$25 basic bike computer, plus Strava, is all I need.
As for which e MTB is better, I really couldn't give a fat rats arse. My Giant may not be the best e MTB available, but I am thrilled with it.
Isn't that all that matters?

My EMTB was the perfect balance for me of specification, performance, range, styling, feeling when riding, and above all value. No cock waving about brand, power, range etc from me.

It might not be anyone else's personal choice, but then again its not their bike either.

That sucks even worse - Sparks are a snappy XC ride & a new one is like $6K. I would have held out for at least a couple cases of a good Cab Sav or a Merlot ;-)

Specialized used more batt than the yamaha, fair comparison? Was it software management or rider input that made the difference? If all things were even it appears that you could ride further with the Yamaha, I dunno.

The video was a nice idea and entertaining to watch, but hardly scientific considering all the variables
The only way to compare accurately is to put them on some sort of dyno where you can measure and control the amount of power applied to the pedals and the power applied by the motor to the ground. Then see how much battery gets used.
Any other way is simply speculation and gut feelings ........ and brand loyalty

But in the real world, who cares? As long as you love your bike and you don't run out of juice on a big ride then so what!

Blenheim New Zealand. Son-in-law will come up with the odd Shiraz I suspect when family next in New Zealand. He lives in Singapore and looks after me very well with golf trips to top Courses in Thailand, Malaysia etc. Have Coronary Artery Disease plus heart walls are stiffening meaning it can't suck in the normal requirement of blood. Prognosis is pretty good for a 73 year old as long as I keep up my fitness work and don't put on weight. Just love riding the hills on the e-mtb. Like a kid with a new bike. Cheers, or as my old primary school teacher would say - Slainte Mhath.

We have some epic rides in Oz, quite often I end the day with nothing left in the battery. I don't ride bike parks, prefer the adventure rides. You go to a place like this Blue Derby, Tasmania | Blue Derby and you just don't want to stop.
Can't understand not wanting to discuss the efficiency of motors, just as important as battery size.
I'm a Levo lover but am willing to consider other brands (although tried out the Yamaha motor and can't stand the noise).
