I saw a different thread about this and someone made a tool to tighten. In the meantime, mine is loose and wondering how I should tighten with everyday tools. Will I have to take the crank arm off if I wanted to apply some lock tight??

Mine came loose. Took to LBS they had tool to tighten. They locktited, torked 30 nm. Hasn't loosened since. I also read thread checked and it was loose. Saved me lot of troubles. I assumed they had to remove arm.

To use a proper tool yeah you have to remove the crank arm. You can use a hammer and punch but I’d not recommend it. You’d most likely damage the nut and you’ve no way of knowing the torque it’s tightened to.
