Today on the Viking Way, next to a cattle drink on the River Witham (no cattle for ages, hence no mud and plenty of grass).

If you zoom in on the sign post that says Public Bridleway, you will see the yellow emblem that signifies the Viking Way.
As a kid I used to swim in the Witham north of you though………in an “end of the road” village called Barnby in the Willows on the border of Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire. In fact the boundary of the two counties know as the Shiredyke was only a couple of fields from our back door.
A small world

Not quite a bike leaning up against a tree pic but my Bro decided the Garbonzo DH Race Track was not difficult enough today so he took me down an unsanctioned spur which was fresh loam and as steep and lose as it gets. Of course he made it look easy and I went OTB and then did a couple of rolls until a tree broke my fall. POC body armor for the win!

Finding a lot of people nowadays not keen on bikes
TBF...I'm finding more acceptance from the wooly hat brigade..
Go back 25years or so and it was extremely toxic ..I had a group of 12 or so ( mixed ) chasing me on a bridleway at Beamish with their sticks ..(not those ski poles they use these days ) ..because I had the audacity to ring my bell ( I had one back then ) to let them know I was behind them ..
Unfortunately though you are always going to get the diehards who truly believe they and nobody else are allowed to be there 🙁

Went for a ride on the normy. Great fun but a combination of a leaking back wheel through one of the spokes & forgetting to take my pack with me meant binning it off after six miles or so. Shame really, I'd have liked a few more miles out of the day.

Managed a quick blast this afternoon after the rain of biblical proportions on Friday evening and Saturday.

Expecting the worst but not too bad. Quite a bit of run-off on some of the trails/tracks, some of the ruts have deepened!

Then the sun came out fleetingly, managed to grab this whilst I could...

Got just over 16 miles in, 2500ft and over 1200 kCals.

One of the oldest trails on the North Shore is called Grannies. It is definitely Old School, full of rooty chutes, rock slabs, more roots and basically a raw feel to it. The kind of stuff my wife doesn't really like to ride as it requires confidence and speed to get any kind of flow which can be difficult on a trail that is so raw. I have only ridden the trail a few times myself as it is pretty demanding (rated single black on the trail sign but double black on trail forks!). I was very impressed with how many of the features my wife road but MORE impressed with the fact she said she would go back and give it another try!

Which trail would you choose, Crippler or Grannies?

Weapon of choice: Levo SL (Mullet, Ohlins F170mm, R155mm)

BIg roots and rock slabs.

Bonus: Lighting never strikes the same place twice but it comes pretty dam close!

Well this is Tuuuuurd. I can't upload half my photos, says image too big, I see others images are far superior to my measly little thumbnail style things, quality seems to have been compressed loads on the ones that have uploaded and look shite on here. Not sure where I'm going wrong on uploads but it is what it is.

So far I really like the tires, including the downhill casing. These tires are heavy. I just ordered the enduro casing for the rear and trail casing for the front. I am going to try these casings without the Huck Norris insert. This should save me 1.25 lbs, getting me down to 40.75 lbs. I swapped the GX Eagle cassette for an X01 10-50 cassette, which saves another 1/4 lb. I was hoping for 40 lbs with pedals, so 40.5 lbs will get me close to that number. I am not sure where to save another 1/2 lb without affecting the descending abilities. I could possibly go to the one piece RSL bar/stem RSL to get me there, but I like the Deity stem and bar combination I am currently running.

If I don’t like the way it rides at that time, I’ll switch it back with the downhill casing and inserts. I do not think the Huck Norris makes that much of a difference and I’ve never had any issues w/o an insert. I think losing 1.75 lbs off my rolling weight off my wheels will make a pretty big difference and should help increase range a little bit. The range right now is definitely less than my Orbea Rise was, which doesn’t make sense given the same size battery and 10 nmless on the motor.
