Today was an ice cream kind of day...

View attachment 62885
We had something similar at the end of our ride at Hamsterley ...only I nearly didn't..having left me to fettle on with loading the bikes my lad came back with an already melting 99 sugar cone and as he was passing mine to me the large scoop of ice cream fell ..I caught it as it hit my top at chest height but was glad of a change of clothes and some wipes in the car to clean the raspberry sauce off my fingers ...it kind of cooled me down after seeing the totally over the top parking charges the F.C.have applied £10.00!!..for 3.5 hours ..!!..

Steve - Wild man of the woods
......................

That reminds me. I was with a mate of mine (rip) several years ago and one of the Forest rangers stopped us and asked if we'd seen a naked man running about the woods, as they'd had several reports! We hadn't, but what were they thinking sending a 5'2" young lass out alone to investigate? (Mind you, for all I know she was a black belt in something nasty).

You're ignoring the option that maybe she was the one who stripped him naked and he'd managed to escape !

This evening's ride in the Cheviot Hills with EMF & Nick ..without doubt my favourite ride of the year so far ..that final blast down to Slymefoot delivers smiles in bucketloads every time
Nick & The EMF at Yearning Saddle Refuge Hut ...

Nick on his Whyte hardtail ..rolled back the years tonight and was never too far away from the two battery boys ..

EMF ..on one of the "slab" sections ..air lifted in to repair the eroded sections of the trail ..there is a good couple of miles like this on various parts of the Ridge.. ,

Cheers lads ..
edit: (4.6.21) Having just linked my Viewranger account to Outdoor Active ..it seems that I can copy & paste the tracks ..so this is my first attempt at doing so ...I'm not sure as to the accuracy of downhill speed as the last descent was in excess of 30mph when I glanced ..and the overall speed needs to take into account that Nick wasn't on an emtb..( which makes his effort more impressive )

I thought I would add a western theme today - after spending 10 days at my daughter and son-in-law's new ranch in central British Columbia (Canada) - after helping with the cattle processing I was able to spend 8 days pedalling in country that I'm pretty sure have never seen a bicycle and seldom a person . . . the levo once again was such a treat but next trip out will include some bear bells attached to the handle bars - I'm used to riding in bear country but the numerous sightings on these trips had me approaching each intersection singing off key on whatever sea shanty I could remember . . . the moose in the attached picture didn't seem to be too impressed with human company . . . a forest fire had cleared much of the territory in 2015 and many unexpected obstacles proved to be a challenge but I can't wait to head back in the Fall . . . Decided not to go out during the day due to heat and traffic/footfall concerns (Public Holiday UK yesterday).

My wife and I did Gisburn on Saturday (mainly Blues, I did the lower Reds without her as a final 'lap') and it was quite quiet considering the weather and a holiday weekend.

Last evening though, the itch became too great so we went up Jubilee Tower as Rivington would still have been busy.

Lovely ride as the sun lowered over the sea and Ribble estuary...
