Watched a little bit of your video Dobby. Which included a bit near the beginning where you moan about the magic mary tucking under on turns.
What size, compound and casing Magic Mary are you running upfront?
and what pressure do you run it at?
I've only ever found a MM to tuck under (If we're talking about the same thing) if it's run too low pressure on hardpack (Which is what you're riding in the vid). Basically from too little sidewall support.
too soft (unsupportive) or slow (rebound) fork settings can cause a similar issue. But if you've only changed the tyre it's unlikley to be your fork.

as for the lad kicking your arse. From the short section I watched your line choice is poor and you're not setting up or positioning your entry to most corners well. By entering the corner in the wrong position you're losing speed in every corner. Get out of the sheep lines. Set up wider entering corners when you can and brake less before entry so as to exit each corner with more momentum. ie. FREE speed ;)

its a (apparently) ebike version of the MM which is supposed to have a stiffer carcass, I asked for a gravity casing soft tyre and thats what I got.. anyway, I cant feel it doing that 'sidewall folding' like the OEM tyre did, im running 24psi in the front and its not tucking in that way where the sidewall starts to crease, I know that feeling. instead it seems that the side knobs 'grab' and you can feel it like a twist through the bars, I have got used to it now but only in the way that I ignore it instead of react to it every time it happens. as for the fork, as I get progressively faster, the fork gets harder and the rebound gets faster too.. otherwise yes, its as you say.

yea, line choice and techniques are poor and im bouncing off the limit of what I know at the moment, its frustrating.
I need to follow someone faster than me and learn..
another thing I do is not look far enough down the trail, I do look down the trail, I dont look at my front wheel etc but when things get sketchy I forget it all and look 3 feet in front of myself again :D

EDIT: just watched the vid again to check my lines - yea... pretty poor, approaching left hand corners on the left side of the trail etc etc. ill think more carefully about what im doing next time.

no, nothing but sealant
maybe time to get some? I'm Going to be trying some Rimpact Pro in near future. Thinking of putting back on my max Terra exo casing maxxis tyres For the spring. I use 2.3 and 2.4 width tyres,, I have heard that Rimpact inserts are not so good with 2.6

I'm getting on a bit and should know better at 71, but! This was my reward for chasing a spritely 40-something down one of our very wet local singletracks in the dark, duh. Smashed femur and shattered hip with slightly lesser knee, ankle and privates damage. Small series of tree roots to blame, laid out like a piano keyboard, sneaky little ferkers. I did enjoy the seeemingly never ending broadside before the clatter though, life flashing etc. :) Back on the trails just five weeks later, very tentatively. Brilliant Physiotherapists. Hence I have just entered the Electrification process with a Merida eOne-Sixty. I was on my fairly light Trek EX-9 at the time, not looking forward to the new Monster Truck landing on me.

trust me .. the trails here are rock on rock on rock with some rock .. and at first you think, this is just freekin impossible .. but I stick with it, did a bit of suspension twiddle and you do actually adjust ..

I think I posted somewhere where I thought the cold weather was fecking with my suspension on a 3 degree day (c) because the rear felt so freekin hard, then found I'd accidentally locked the rear :) OK, I'm a muppet, but that was on 3 bar and YOU do adjust !!!
tried it today, 30/34 psi and it was horrible..
I persisted with it though and after an hour it was normal, I adjusted my body position and I am pretty sure it helped me with relaxing my arms and upper body because if I wasnt relaxed, I knew about it pretty quickly !
a very rocky and then very slopppy / muddy ride today, the tyres were more sketchy in some ways but also more predictable.
in conclusion, I think ill stick with the higher pressures, might even try more

I think this probably sums it up and is the wisest thing I've read all year ! :)

Whilst the lower pressure might save your ass when you're flapping around like a dead fish in the back of a truck on a bumpy road (that's how I ride anyway) When you're trying to sort out your technique, I think the higher pressure gives more predictability so you start riding correctly - because you have to.

I take it the TLD7855 fits Sam ok then and it's just your more "developed" physique where it was a stretch ?

yea, the tyres slide and catch rather than fold on the sidewall and squrim, way more predictable and it only feels sketchy at first. yes, had to start sorting my riding and position out, it really did help.
off to the local downhill track tomorrow and bikepark Wales on Wednesday so we will see what the pressures do for me there!
the 7855 is SO tight on me and I have the largest size.. its too loose for Sam but he is growing at a prodigious rate atm so it wont be long..
I wear my old MX armour that has a huge clasp around the upper midriff that makes me look fatter than I already do !

Cool. Once you're "god like" in your abilities, you could probably drop them again to take advantage of the grip when you need it. Be interesting to see how you get on anyway - and hopefully, not get off ....

Almost bought an "L" as I've been bored and armour stocking for 2022.. Just couldn't justify having a second one for what they cost at the moment, despite loving my "M" (which is ever so slightly too small and requires at least 4 people to remove after a ride). Did wash the M yesterday and I still really like the armour compared to 99% of the other options - wish they'd pump some money back into the product and make a revised version with better shoulders and more removable sections.

makes me look fatter than I already do !

Surely not ! :p :ROFLMAO:

Have you considered a kidney belt, or corset ?

I suspect it's just global warming creating localised pressure differences which are causing your svelte physique to appear more gelatinous than it actually is !

ask @Gelatinous Mass - he would seem to be the expert !
Part of your body has it's own forum profile ? Is that allowed ?

yes, if they had D30 and/or a solid cover for the ribs that would be nice..

Maybe not D3O, it would just get heavy and sweaty and destroy what is the 7855 (uhm, maybe for the shoulders as the shock doctor seems to suck on flexible curves). But some additional swap in panels from a 5955 or similar would be super cool - especially on the back.
