Anyone have any insight into Shimano coming out with a new motor and larger batteries in 2020. The motor is sound but only 70nm of torque and the smaller 504 wh batteries. Seems they are the last to upgrade,

Well, much of the industry is going the other direction (less powerful/lighter motors, smaller batteries, etc.), but I would love to see an E9000 with 90nm of torque and a BT-E9010 with 650-750Wh that fits in the same shape battery as a BT-E8010.

New Motor called EP8, new 630wh internal battery, and updated Apps/Software. Likely launch date in Autumn this year, though Covid 19 may alter that - manufacturers will have the updated systems in 2021 lineups. Unsure if controllers and peripherals are updated too, or if multiple motors to be launched.

From what we saw new battery is longer than existing, but cant confirm

And there are already a number of Shimano OEMs sourcing their own internal 630Wh batteries for use with the existing STEPS system.

I believe the other thread has disappeared because it had details/pics of 2021 Commencal Bikes in it, so most likely that content rather than anything Shimano related, as there was really little more than speculation in it till that point.

The Darfon batteries give the best idea of likely dimensions, they are the biggest supplier of non Shimano batteries paired with Shimano motors - they may even make the Shimano batteries for them iirc

I'm just here in anticipation of what the random new guy from New Zealand with no posting history has to say about the missing thread

I’d imagine some proper Shimano launches soon:

There are 630Wh non-Shimano batteries that have been integrated into Shimano-based eMTBs. Not sure this is the new Shimano battery.

Yeah as @R120 says these have been out for a while and that predates even the stuff we found in this thread. I’m sure we don‘t have long to wait for lots of new Shimano stuff.

I heard it was supposed to be launched at the Garda mtb festival, which has now of course been cancelled
