Levo Gen 2 Motor Error after Belt replacement

Hello,

My 2019 Turo Levo FSR motor gave up on me yesterday, at the end of a 40km ride.
No more support from the motor, and high pitch noise coming from it, also bike won't roll backwards if switched on.

Figured out it was a belt problem, I live in Morocco (North Africa), no Specialized official retailer here.

Took the bike to a local e-bike "expert", he removed and opened the Brose motor in less than 10 minutes, belt was gone, broken.
According to him, no damage elsewhere, everything looked fine (bearings, axles...).

He was able to find and use a belt from another Brose S Mag motor (from a BH bike), put the motor together, mount it.

After putting everything back in place, bike will turn on but with the blue/red LEDs flashing (1st and 3rd position, motor error according to manual), no support from motor, sensor and remote working.

Have tried to reboot the bike couple of times, reset TCU, go through all Mission Control Update but nothing changes, any help ?

Given that your local e-bike "expert" is not a Specialized specialist, but ripped out the motor in less than 10 minutes... it is entirely possible that he introduced a new problem in the course of disassembly/reassembly.


Also, have you connected the bike to the latest version of Mission Control to see what it says the specific error code is?

Also, have you connected the bike to the latest version of Mission Control to see what it says the specific error code is?

It was my only option, no LBS around here or proper bike repair shops, but the guy said he is done this before for 5 or 6 Levos before mine, never had any error/software issue after replacement. Found different threads about same issue on the forum, I guess will have him check all different connections (Battery, Torque sensor might be the cause).

As per Mission Control, I am not getting any error code, it is just saying that is some Internal Motor error, and that it should clear automatically.

Not sure if this will help you. Could be a problem with torque sensor damage or position.

We checked the torque sensor, looks fine, no damage to the pins/connection.

I have found a new Brose S mag motor,.that was removed from a BH bike, will try to swap the entire motor and keep the electronics part.

I hope it works

Be Aware that this "new S-mag Motor from BH Bike" does NOT have the Specialized Trail Tune Software installed, that means you will get Errors because the BH Motor can`t communicate with your TCU And Battery (Both Specialized Software) while BH Bike S-Mag uses Brose Software !! In order to get this Motor running you need the Specialized Software flashed on it.....
I would swap the circuit board from your excisting Motor to the new Motor ,..that should work

This does not work. The motor is a 3 phase motor and the magnet angle is programmed to the ECU. Saying that you do have a 360 to 1 chance that you have the same motor angle as in the old ecu. However, the motor will probably work as "Specialized" software is not really that special so if the BH bikes use a generic Brose controller, the motor will work with your specialized bike. Even mission control can work sometimes. The difference between "Trail tuned" and any one else's tune is not really that noticeable, especially if it's saving you £900.00!

Normally when we have had these issues with people refitting motors, it is always a wiring issue, plugs not pushed in properly, plug pins or terminals damaged, wrong plug in wrong hole etc! (often see wrong plugs forced into wrong hole) Does motor work on walk assist? If yes, torque sensor fault, if no wiring or plugs. (if ecu was removed check pins as Zim said. They can push the plug out of the way as well as bend the pins, so look very carefully.

Ended up getting a BROSE BELT SERVICE KIT from Axevotech, with the right 0.2 Nm Screw Driver (Cost me $400+ after shipping and customs ?), we replaced the belt again, checked all terminals, wiring and plugs, no apparent damage but did not work, same issue again with the Red/Blue LED flashing (Motor Error), no power from the motor and Walk assist not working.

Mission Control is connected to the bike, sensor working for speed, and even able to change different assist modes.

Thank you all for your replies in this thread, I guess at this point my only option is to try to find a new Motor

Did you check the ECU pins? You do know we have a partner in America who sells Brose belts and tools for less than half that price don't you? Brose Parts Identifier - eBike Motor Repair He also fixes motors too :cool:

We have checked all the pins and connectors, unfortunately getting same error. My bike has been sitting in the shop for the entire summer.
I live in Morocco, and not sure about any options to ship my Motor to Europe or US.

All our partners are capable and supported on service and overhaul of motors. When it comes to the electronics side it is currently a little more difficult. If the issue lies within the Electronic Control Unit (ECU). No manufacturer will release circuit diagrams or component maps, part numbers etc. Or support anyone with factory diagnostics and software, so currently there are limits to what is possible.
