Hey :)
I've just got back from my LBS and I didn't update!

They have actually upgraded their bikes, so I decided before I pay for an update, I'll test drive theirs ;)

I agree with with what was mentioned above, the power delivery is indeed smoother and the bike feels like a manual bike, but it feels like you have 2 sets of legs instead.

Now this is actually reasonably nice to ride, except in a few circumstances (that affected me)

In the park there is a hill (just flat dirt/pebbles steep dirt hill) on my bike I could easily get up the hill by putting in a very small amount of effort (even in a high gear) as the motor tends to push out 540w as soon as you touch the pedals. So I can easily get up steep, unannounced, hills which is really useful.

On their bike I noticed that I had to input more Manual effort to get up the same hill.

They explained that it's now tuned to almost mimic what you do, which in Theory delivers more power as the 2 are now addictive now where as previously they went (technically) but only kind of were.

So now there are a few things that Are not there for me.

1, The bike no longer takes off as easily when you are sat on a hill at traffic lights for example. You now need to add more force to the bike to get it moving and up to speed (even in Turbo) that immediate power and that whoosh to get you moving just by touching the pedal (race mode) is gone.

2, Riding up a long steep hill. I took the bike to the park and drove my usual route that I took to the bike shop today. On my bike I usually sit in 9th or 10th gear and the bike literally pushes me up hills without hardly any physical exertion from my self (lazy I know). On the shops bike I had to pedal much harder (maybe what felt around twice as hard) to get he same level of power back. This made me feel like I was on a normal bike, but with stronger legs, unlike my bike that made me feel like someone was literally pushing me from behind as a laughed at how easy it was.

3, The battery on their bike after 2hrs riding was indeed hardly used. So with this new menthod and taking a little more energy from the rider, the battery life should be exponentially increased.

4, Motor cut off is slightly less prominent. But that's because you are adding more manual force so therefore notice it less (as assistance was reduced technically) "optimised"

5, The mission control app does have more flexibility and I I like the extra options. But I also would prefer the older options too.

6, The bike does feel more manual, therefore slightly more controllable as the power is delivered more conservatively.

My overall experience after a 2hr ride (thanks to my LBS)

I would say if you prefer the maximum POWER, speed, fast take off, rocket modes, easy riding modes stay with 22 and use a 3rd party app.

If you don't like the ebike feel and you would like to ride the bike and make it feel more manual, be more economical, require more input/effort from you, more reserved in how it delivers power, (calmer/slower/more delicate/puts out what you put in etc) then upgrade.

For me personally I will not be upgrading at this juncture. I will wait for the next update and the motor update to see what changes are made.

I personally really like the ebike feel. I like cruising on it, being pushed up hills, having the ability to stop on a steep hill in traffic at lights and just rest my foot on the pedal in 9th gear and be almost instantly accelerated to 15mph in 1 turn of the pedals :)

I hope they bring back the other modes, I hope they add a POWER mode (like we have now) and I hope everyone is able to stop fighting :)

But there we have it 2hrs on a 23FW bike riding the same route I just rode on my 22FW bike.

I hope that helps someone.
This is an update likely based on feedback from serious mountain bike riders who want to have it act like a Manual bike with more longevity on the batter at the sacrifice of additional power from themselves.

Me, I want a small little effort as possible and the trail to be fun :)

Yeah i’m Fairly pissed at this shop to start with, and it was salt in an old wound to pay them a dime.
My first dealing with them was a creak that developed. They told me they stopped every bolt out and motor out ect and it still creaked. Did not charge me and told me to go to where I brought it. 250km round trip and they took motor out, cleaned and greased and no more creak. So to original shop was just full of bs, and now they charge me for the firmware update. I’m going to spill the beans on this shop soon just loading the chamber as they are giving me plenty of ammo.
I would contact specialised again and get there reaction to the disgusting rip off!

You’re not reading my posts properly because they aren’t sycophantically agreeing with you.

I asked where firmware updates are mentioned and does it specifically say free? Answer me that if you would be so kind.

It's a given that FW are free! They provide safety and security in ALL devices but it's never written that they are free. Look at every device you own! None of them say FREE firmware if bought in store (but not online). It's just accepted as it's fundamental to the safety and secureity of the device.

People here are getting them free.
Specialised emailed me and said it's free if I take it to the store I bought it from, but I bought it from their website which randomly picks stock from a Specialized (owned and operated by Specailized) concept store which I had DELIVERED! How many times with this guy :-/ ... honestly what are we doing here!

It doesn't say my router gets free FW updates.
it doesn't say my car gets free FW updates.
it doesn't say my phone gets free FW updates.
It doesn't say my tv gets free FW updates.
It doesn't seem at my phone only get for FW update from the store I bought them from.
Etc
Etc
That's mental!

It doesn't say this website won't charge you a 10 dollars for every letter you typed, but we all accept it's free (with advertising) what you are saying not only ludacris its ridiculous. No one would write everything that could or could not happen into a description.

FW has never been a chargeable extra!

It's the underlying foundation of the road going vehicle.
It's dangerous NOT to upgrade in most circumstances.
They might not support it, or ever release more FW in the future (that's fine) but charging for safety / security of a Road going vehicle is disgusting and indefensible.

All I can say is if you googled free FW updates specialized you will find reviews that say bike shops "generally shouldn't be charging for updates" and as this information is NOT provided to the user in any way, at the point of sale, this absolutely is the definition of dishonest sales practice.

If you got sent a bill now from rob for £10 because you live in England (for access to the forum) but those who lived in wales got it free because they live near rob (but he never mentioned this when you joined) your saying you accept this and go ... "dur.. yes sir...dur ... here is £10 for access because I live 200 miles away.. durr durr"

You are arguing for the sake of arguing, and embarrassing yourself. Stop it!

Come on mate grow up and get real.
You can't go around saying nonsense like that and expecting people to take you seriously. Imagine if we lived In a world where what you are suggesting was real! Imagine the chaos!

DOM I have a BRIDGE for sale wanna buy it LMAO ;)

Seriously though in your world this scenario below is acceptable.

Here is a TV for sale!
4K OLED HDR UHDTV £1000 Currys Leeds (24 in stock)
You buy it take it to UNI in Manchester, turn it on!

And...

"Error this TV doesn't work outside Leeds" :)

"As we never told you this directly or Indirectly or mentioned it anywhere in the literature, we haven't done anything wrong. Therefore there is nothing you can do about it because you can't argue against these claims, as we never said it "would" work outside Leeds."

The precendent you are setting in this "fantasy" world of yours is utterly ludacris. What kind of LARP is this?
You are either trolling hard (which I suspect you are) because no same human being would find that world acceptable or you are drunk :)

thank you for the report can you tell me what settings you had please

Sure :)
On my bike I tend to run the following:

Eco 50
Trial 75
Turbo 100
With max power and full acceleration (because I LOVE the POWER) :) I ride around giggling like madman when I'm on my bike, it makes me laugh every time I get on it. It's stupid fun! :)

On the shops bike I tried the following:

Default settings directly from store / app. This was interesting I didn't like it at all (hard to work to hard to ride) and after just a few minutes made changes to the settings like this.

Eco 50 /100
Trail 75/100
Turbo 100/100

This was after about 20 minutes of testing the bike to find the best settings. What I found was, that the new firmware for sure requires the user to give a little more. Even with maxed out similar settings.

This FW seems more mature, more sensible, less like a electric bike and more like a manual bike.
But I didn't buy a ebike for it to be like a manual ;)

It's like this firmware is the "boy racer" FW and the new one is an old mans smart car :)

It's by no means bad, if you are fit, enjoy manual bikes, like getting a work out even up hills, like a MUCH longer battery, smoother power delivery etc then this is absolutely the update for you.

For me this is like a "Green" update and the current one is like the "Nuclear Waste" version.

However I really like 4 hours of raw power and full crazy easy assistance vs more of my power for a harder trial and longer battery.

I also tried out settings such as:
30/100
60/100
100/100

I also tried
40/80
80/80
100/100

But each one made it feel like I was having to work harder.

I tried lots of settings though in the 2 hours and I can absolutely see why some will LOVE this new update. Honestly for hard core serious riders this is probably a godsend and the holy grail as they like to work out.

I eventually settled at
50/100
75/100
100/100

On the new FW bike Which is exactly what I run on my bike, and the difference is real, very noticeable.

You have to put in more to get more out of the new upgrade. That seems to be what this update is about. Very smooth, less ebike push, less of that instant power rush etc much smoother.

More in = More Out

The old update (my current version on my bike) is "touch the pedals" here is 540w of power immediately baby :) I like that :)

For sure the new update is much more smooth in its power delivery, it's really nicely delivered, but it seems they have scaled that power back in exchange for more user input and for me (lazy, power hungry, knackered knees) it's not as nice to ride overall as it doesn't assist me as quickly, powerful and as much as it did before.

I won't be updating and would recommend you guys do what I did. Test the stores bike first ;)

ETAP for mission control type settings
Blevo and zworks for everything else i would say thats much more infinite tune than mission control offers

@ccrdave , I think I will be adopting the same approach for now. I already use Blevo and very happy with it. You mentioned ETAP app. I'm struggling to find this app. I'm I right in presuming this is Android only app as I'm not having any luck finding it in the Apple app store?

Yea I think it depends on why style of rider you are.

I think riders like Rob will love the new update and Also Tori. As they seem to like to Kill themselves in the videos I've seen :)

They like to get a workout and really push.

I'm personally not that type of rider, and as I was not part of the feedback for this update, I suspect those that did feedback were hard core riders.

I can absolutely agree that for hardcore riders this would be infinitely better as they can trade off power for manual input and they don't want that sharp/fast/ unexpected 540w of power just by resting on the pedals (but I do :))

For serious riders they will find that annoying and hard to be precise etc. I really do see what they did with the update and why.

But I prefer the boy racer madness mode :)

It's insanely fun and I can work around it when on a trial. I'm not a professional rider o do it for fun and that power burst as soon as i rest on the pedals and get pushed up a hill with out hardly touching the pedals seriously makes me laugh every time :)

I can sit at lights, on a steep hill in 8/9th gear and beat a car off the line and up to 15mph I laugh ever time :)

The new power delivery stops that and requires you to add more force to get moving to ensure safety for those on hard trails as that power could likely push them off track etc and hurt them...

But I love it :)

For now, I will say with the current buy racer / madness mode / nuclear waste mode and will wait to see what the next update brings as "green" or eco mode is not right for my particular riding style.

But I'm a fat lazy old knackered knee git who does this for fun, you youngsters may prefer a solid workout and more predictable and precise controlled slower power delivery.

Yes etap is an andriod app
Personally i think blevo give the best of the new firmware style but also allows you mission control settings as well sort of best of both worlds app but its worth noting the android version of blevo has more function than the ios version
There is anothe android app called egenisis

Wow, it appears that a few of us are getting very passionate today.

Why don’t we all take a step back, a deep breath and understand that we all have different opinions.

If you disagree, you disagree. If you think you are right then that is your opinion and not necessarily everyone else’s opinion. It is what it is, different opinions, sometime they clash, sometimes they don’t. When they do clash can you try your best not to get too personal about it?

If you feel you can’t go for a ride because your ebike is dangerous then go for a ride on your analogue bike or go for a walk. Vent your anger by calling Specialized directly, I have always found then really helpful. You may have had different experiences. To quote @outerlimits ‘Can’t please 100% of the people 100% of the time.’

I have ridden my ebike today with the updated App setting but no new FW deployed yet and I can confirm in ‘my opinion’ it is more than safe. I was lucky enough to have the previous App on another device so I will play around with both over the next few days but at this very point in time in ‘my opinion,’ I will stay on .22 but this may change depending on any other updates coming out.

Life is too short, so get out and enjoy it before it’s too late ?

just had a phone call from Specailized UK from Duncan who works in there technical department he has spoken to Evans Cycles at Maidestone there saying that there IT department has there computers on lock down so they can't download anything without special permission from head office went on about other things there not happy about with Evans in general..... The outcome is Duncan has given me the phone number of a mate who works in a Cycles UK store & there willing to do the up-date while I wait I know this doesn't sound like a great fix as the problem with Evans Cycles needs sorting but at least Specialized are trying.

I'm on Android and can't find any other apps other than Blevo and Egenisis. Some links would be good.

I've connected Mission Control to my bike and the battery is 22.3. I've updated settings to 15/35/65 and kept peak power at 100, hopefully riding tomorrow to see if I like. I might test the default 20/50/100 too, but understand my acceleration response will now be Eco?

If I miss my original Race acceleration, I think I'll just use Blevo to get it back to that, maybe test out the higher speed cutout setting too, might be a lot of fun.

I know this next question is off topic, so I'll start a new thread but, While were here ;)

I just washed my bike and checked my shocks / forks and noticed that my Ohlins and my monarch both needed pumped up (after only 3 days of riding) is that normal with these shocks/forks?

Wtf are you talking about ???

What you laughing at ;)
My shocks and forks are flat after a 3 day ride. How long should the air last in the shock roughly is 3 days normal for the Ohlins and monarch shocks or should the air last in the forks and shocks last for a month?

This is my first Ohlins fork and monarch :)

Wowser! Mine were at 50 monarch and 75 bottom chamber (down form 190) Ohlins and top chamber around 80 down from 110.

Not yet been on any mental hardcore trails just breaking it in slowly on easy trails for now so that's surprising :)

I'll stop this conversation now though as i started a thread and it's off topic :)

Thanks for the heads up though I'll keep an eye on it and discus how to monitor it in the new thread :)

No and no.

Given the gibberish you've been posting I was starting to wonder if you'd been on the sauce yourself.

I've just been trying to understand if you are justifiably upset because it says the updates are free or just ranting because you have assumed they are and now you might have to pay.

As ccrdave posted ages ago, Spesh provide the update to dealers for free, but they might charge for their time. It seems some do and some don't. Perhaps you'd put your energy into talking to (not at) Specialized rather than ranting at me you would have been pointed to a local(ish) dealer who would do the update for free by now. It worked for others.

FYI, insulting people is generally not considered a good method of bringing them round to your way of thinking.

Then follow your own path!
You've done nothing but be insulting to me directly.
Look at your posts they literally ALL insult me, my view, my point, my method, my buying choices, you mock me talking about overreaction emoji etc YOU are insulting me constantly because of my situation. It's outrageous?

You say insulting someone isn't the way to get them round etc.. yet in the same post you "literally" insult me? Hypocrite much?

Simply by making false assumptions and accusation based on not reading the post at its entirety. And even again TWICE above? Why don't you read everything before doing this AGAIN.

I HAVE TO PAY!

You can't say one thing about my behaviour and then directly turnaround and do exactly what you criticise.
It sucks to be wrong sometimes, you have been rude, but you have to deal with it, when someone doesn't take your one sided blinded, blinkered incorrect BS.

Dont try to distort the narrative to fit your argument.
Again in this above post you make assumptions that are wrong, and if you only read the posts you understand this. You can't just take the quote, understand what I'm saying. Look at the scenario, understand it, then you will realise then reality of what my situation is. FOREVER WITH THEM not just today.

I have spoken to specialised, so again you missed the point, made a false post, false assumption and ranted at me for something you didn't comprehend again?

It's not me bro, you are adamant your world view is the only view, but it's not mate, I hate to upset you but life experiences are different for everyone, and I'm not here to melt a snowflake but you are wrong on every level thus far.

Read / Understand / Digest / Read again! Then instead of talking of others, look at MY issue not yours, not anyone else's. mine. You seem to miss it every single time.

And before you quote me on "I HAVE TO PAY"
I don't .. but how... you said...

Think about my situation and why I would have to pay.

I could just not upgrade, then I don't have To pay sure. I could find out where the he'll this online bike came from, drive 900miles and get it free that way sure? So,let's look at the situation, I have to Pay! They said it's free if it go back to the store? What store? I never seen a store as I never left my house man!

Think before you post, and understand the situation not just what's written out of context.

Guys I am just going to put this out there.... I have been...... lets say told/warned not to upgrade mission control or my battery yet. It seems Specialized and a 3rd Party tech specialist they are using to help them have not got it right.. yet...… I have been told to leave it for a month or so. Sorry I cant go into details on who, why or where and you can choose believe me or not. I just wanted to let fellow levo/Kenevo owners know what I have been told. If and when I know more I will post

I hope this is actually true, as it would validate the final point that I said would happen, but hasn't yet.
I stated a few pages ago, to "outerlimits" situation, That users would get charged again to upgrade to 23.2 to fix a bug/error specialised made themselves :p after paying to get 23.1

It's the only thing that I listed as a potential issue (especially for my predicament) that hasn't actually happened yet.

However, Every other single point/issue that I mentioned/raised HAS happened within 24 hours of this arriving, and i mentioned this exact scenario a few posts back.

The hilarity is, I'm not talking from a uneducated point of view, look at your gaming devices and think about why there is a beta / opt in experience and think about "who" might QA that and why/how. Then you can figure out what I do for a living and why I think this is total BS. (And correctly predicted this farce within minutes of the announcement).

My lessons learned file doesn't need updating with these situations, they are already in, theirs obviously does though ;)

I want this to be true, just to prove a point at how utterly absurd this pay for FW updates situation actually is! :)

The only answer I have to that is I do not get charged for updates, maybe I jut have a great LBS or it may be the relationship I have with them.
I am disappointed to hear dealers are charging for it. I understand if its all you are doing but lets say you are having a service at the same time they should do the upgrade at the same time for free as it is not a long or difficult process

I 1000% agree with how you have explained it. I really felt like a cheat before with a boyish grin as it just felt a bit like a motor bike. (Little effort, large reward)
Now, I hope I don’t find myself wanting more, but I do like the natural feel. Pitty we can’t have both at the flick of a switch, to suit our mood. (3rd party apps aside)

I'm a bit worried about this, my bike is being delivered this week, which means I'll be getting this bad firmware?
