Hi all - having recently acquired a 2023 Marin Alpine E2 and having debated which size to go for, Large or Extra large, before making my purchase, I thought it might be helpful for me to share my experience and what i have found for the benefit of others who might be out there, thinking of buying this bike.
I’m 184cm tall (6'1”) and coming from a 2019 XL Levo with a reach of 480mm, and taking the recommendation of the Marin size chart and the bike shop, the large should be the bike for me with a reach of 485mm. Luckily a mate of mine has the 2022 Alpine E2 in a large so i got to have a sit on that and pedal it up and down the road a few times. Whilst 5 minutes of riding about on tarmac is not the best test of a go anywhere eMTB, it was enough for me to feel that while the overall geometry provided a really nice comfortable riding position, it felt a tad small.
I was really surprised by this but trusted my gut instinct to go bigger and get the XL with a 505mm reach and I’m so, so glad i did! I've had the bike 3 weeks now and its blown me away. Its absolutely no way too big for me and I’d go as far as to say if there are people out there over 190cm tall then this may not be the bike for you.
The bike is an absolute blast. It descends anything, climbs anything and sends anything and my advice is if you between sizes, then size up!
