In real life how long before we need a new battery?

To clarify the E-Bike situation in Québec, anything above 500W with a max assistance speed exceeeding 32 km/h (20 mph) is considered a motorcycle and needs a license plate. Naturally, they are not allowed on public cycle paths. It is true that the law has been loosely applied in the past, but things are changing, due to too many accidents invoving E-Motorcycles on cycle paths. Most MTB centers accept EMTBs but they limit it to class 1 EMTBs. Because of some "get out of my way" attitude, I did notice that some centers don't allow EMTBs on specific uphill trails.

Now to comeback on the subject of battery longevity, it's a topic that highly interests me. Not that I would mind paying for a replacement battery, but it is most likely I won't be able to get one for the bike I own (Orbea Rise).

I read in quite a few places that if you recharge your battery to a max of 80-85% and never let it go under 20%, it is not considered a full recharge cycle and therefore extends the 200 to 500 expected recharge cycles.

Also, I would think that if a battery pack as a flaw to start with, it will likely show its weakness before the warranty period. So far after a year of usage, my battery is flawless. I do approximately 2 000 km/year (1,250 miles/year), involving around 60 partial recharges. If I get 5 years/10 000 km out of my Rise, I'll be more than happy.

Am I being too optimistic? How many miles/km have you done so far with your EMTB? And if you replaced it, how many km/miles the previous one gave you?

My longest ebike that I've used is approaching 60,000km. Original battery that I custom built. Using LG mj1 3.5ah. 700wh. 58v. Battery has degraded less then 5% In that time.

My other dh ebike is right at 25,000km . It also is custom 58v and uses samsung 35e cells. 1600wh and a measured loss of less then 2%

However. I've been very diligent with my battery care. Never charged when hot. Rarely went below 20%. Stored at 70% and never over heated
