If it was that cold when you crashed............and you then spent 20 mins or so finding and refitting the switch cover I wonder if the main battery or perhaps an auxiliary battery in the display shut down due to being too cold??
Does the display have an auxilliary battery?
Have you checked the main battery...does it have a onboard switch or charge level display?..........have you connected the charger to see what happens?
Hey Mikerb the display does have a 3volt button cell. I did remove it and checked it with my meter and all seemed well. Reinserted , no difference.
The main battery was showing 30% , when I arrived home and removed the battery and looked at the “fuel” gauge on it , it showed close to the same. I did connect the charger to 100% charge, still no joy.
I am starting to lean heavily on the moisture in the motor as being the real issue that caused the problem. Now it’s just a matter of finding out if anything is ruined. My plan now is to change the crank bearings and lube everything up , put it all together and see what happens.
Btw my fingers froze digging in the snow, I bet bu I time I was done a good hour past. 😳

Well I have cleaned everything up , replaced the main crankshaft bearings. Started attempting a dry fit for everything before I lube and seal but I am not positive exactly what kind of washer this is and exactly where it goes. I found it between the torque sensor and outer case but that location doesn’t make any sense to me. It just sits there and really doesn’t do anything. Is this just a spacer of some kind ? Hmmm there is only one other place in could go and that’s in a grove on the crankshaft ? I can’t see it in the parts break down. Looking further…🤔

If it still doesn't power up when you finish, you may want to look at converting the control from the stock Yamaha to VESC. In theory, the VESC can run a torque sensing mid-drive motor just fine.

Thanks for the tip bm I appreciate it… I have a sneaky feeling everything is going to fire up perfectly 🤞

Here’s the sprag clutch and crank, everything looks good, with next to no wear at all. 👍

Well it has certainly been a sweet time working on this Yammy motor. No surprises except for the clip that was out of position. It looks quite well built and I like it overall…. until I actually try to kick it over 🧐 IT better work 😬

Here it is almost , just need to apply the sealant and close it up 👍

Assemble it without sealant first and see if it works. If it works, then open it again and apply sealant.

Stihldog the biggest concern I have about buying another new ride is the motor water ingress problem on EVERY brand currently available 😶 I don’t know if Yamaha has addressed that issue on their new pw-x-3 motor or not ? Water water everywhere ! Seriously I no longer consider any ebike reliable because of that unaddressed issue which is a Huge one considering where I ride. This forum is Loaded with riders across the Planet who are going through motors like toilet paper. Just look at what Gary has gone through for example. 😱At any rate I will be looking and attempting to repair my Yammy. 🤔 I really love this bike aside from the Major water issue.
My first Ebike was Yamaha/Haibike, it was stolen.
They were not distibuted in Quebec anymore so i am on
my second Yamaha/Giant.
Not a problem yet so i smile and recharge.
No car so it sees snow(and a few snow plants), ice, rain.
I never wash any bike so it seems to help me.
I only wipe off the excess.
My next Ebike is a Yamaha/Giant because i love reliable and the price is fair.

Now here is the kicker about the whole deal, the controller might be just fine ! 🤭 Yeps it might just be a coincidence and the real problem may yet be the torque sensor or motherboard in the motor. 😱” Unfortunately you cannot not swap a motherboard (even if I found one) as they are keyed into the magnetic polarity of the motor. It won’t wake up and essentially will not work. (bearingman)From what I am hearing the fault codes don’t always tell the real story. So I could end up replacing the controller assembly and find out the motor still doesn’t run. Which basically means I have a nice boat anchor since boards are not available nor can be changed. 😑
Yamaha, unlike most motors, do not suffer from the motor angle issue when fitting a new board. (You can't change the board on a Giant "SyncDrive", they use their own proprietary software).
One thing you absolutely should not do though, is take the torque sensor apart! It is calibrated to the little PCB and very sensitive to magnetic influence and shock (dropping one is not good).
The parts list you have attached in this post will not have the correct ECU for your motor unless your bike is the Yamaha YDX-MORO Pro, so be careful.
