Hey everyone, I'm from the Denver area and currently have two new-ish ebikes- a Pivot Shuttle and a Specialized Creo SL, as of 3-4 months ago. I have been mountain biking since the late 90s and road/gravel since 2005 or so. I also fat bike in the winter. I still use my regular bikes as well but love e-biking.

Now my wife wants an ebike but mainly for paved path and dirt paths....not real mountain biking or road biking. She also wants to pull a small trailer with our 18-month-old boy. So that leads me to my question- what shoudl I look at? I only know about traditional mountain bikes and road-gravel e-bikes. She wants something less expensive too. It would be good if I can convert the wheels to tubeless and have a decent range (30 miles for sure, even with 1,500 ft of climbing).

So I thought that you guys would know way more than me and could give me some good ideas. I see SO MANY different e-bike options from $1,000 and on that it is pretty confusing. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

hello - we tow a trailer with a Levo Hardtail and thats been great! Our toddler loves it. With the Levo HT also means your wife can do more off path riding if she chooses to do so. You can still put paniers/racks on them etc

You can also look at Turbo Vado. Trek Powerfly. Merida etc There is so many options!

How tall is your wife? As height can be a factor in finding the right bike. Women under 5'4" for example can find it harder to get the right bike that fits. So this may also limit your choices if this applies. I have certainly found it hard for me to buy a EMTB as a woman who isn't that tall.

Thanks sparkly! My wife is just over 5'4". I'll look at the Vado, the Powerfly, and the Merida now, though will have to wait till they are back in stock somewhere.

You don't need an emtb for a dirt path, just get her a Pedego or Rad bike and put good tires on it. If you get a cargo bike, the kid can ride on the back once it's old enough.

Maybe so, however pulling a trailer on a e bike is MUCH easier than on a regular bike. And if Mrs F4Flyer isn't a cyclist now - the e bike will be more fun and easier for her to use. That might be the difference between a daily ride vs only going out infrequently.

Besides why should Mrs F4F miss out Mr F4F has one!

My wife used to be a cyclist and runner many many years ago. I don't know what happened to her, but she suddenly lost interest. I am partially to blame since I mostly rode with my buddies and she had a hard time keeping up when we rode together, even if I went slow. Yeah, it was probably me. I think she will really enjoy it again, once I get her an e-bike.

Just purchase a Liv Rove E+ for my wife and she loves it. Liv also sells a bike called the Amiti E+ that has a little bigger battery and stronger motor which might be nice for towing a trailer. Both bike are in the low $2K price range.
