Hi folks - sorry if this is the wrong place to post as newbie.

Anyways - since getting my E-Bije I want a decent mips helmet with good temple protection and maybe better neck protection (not a full facer) I bought a POC Axion max size 58cm but it's too tight (can't get a single turn on the tightener), so I bough a POC Kortal 58 - 62cm Too big and heavy (need to wind it all the way in to get it to fit)

So the problem is my head is bang on 58cm - can anyone recommend another decent brand with mips and good temple and neck protection while still being quite light, where the sizing is say something like 56-60cm or something that will fit me.

I also have exactly 58cm head and Troy Lee Designs A3 Mips (M/L = 57-59) fits me perfectly.

PS - You should have bought next size up POC Axion because even within the same manufacturer different helmet models are not necessarily sizing comparable.

Thanks Irie for your knowledge and quick response, I am about to return the Axion...the next size up is 59-62, do you think I should return it for that? I like the look and sizing of the Troy Lee A3 MIPS (M/L = 57-59) I can get one from treadz uk for £100.

My wife has same size head as me and has a Fox Speedframe Pro Mips (M, 57-59) which she loves, but I don't like the fit, so just depends on what fits your head shape. But TLD A3 Mips for £100 does look pretty tempting ...

Helmets are like shoes the sizing is not as it should be and a trial and error is often the only solution as you are finding out

You have to figure out your head shape and then buy helmets that generally fit that shape.

I am usually 58cm also. I got most medium helmets. POC does not fit my head shape at all. Smith, Giro, Bell, and 100% usually do.

POC is for a much more round head shape. My head is more of an oval.

Good look with the Troy Lee, I have only heard good things about it.

Abus Moventor 2.0 Mips in 57-61cm is a nice helmet which should fit.

Each helmet company tends to use their own "last", like shoemakers do for feet. This is their target head shape that they make all their helmets to fit (one per size, obvs). Each company has produced their own last and therefore they are different. I now know that any Met helmet will fit me and also any Bell. I like the looks of lots of helmets made by others but they don't fit me. I can buy a Met or a Bell off the internet with confidence, but all others have to be tried first.

When I went into a very big bike shop to buy my first mtb helmet (in 2008), I was prepared to pay up to £80 if I had to. After trying on just about every helmet in the shop, I had rejected all but one for two reasons: 1) it didn't fit, and 2) I looked like a dick with it on.

The one I bought was a Met in black, it was an XC style (not out of fashion in 2008) and it cost all of £30. But at least I was happy to wear it.
