I weigh 16 stone. No plans to buy an awesome fork. I am a recreational rider with no technical riding skills. I have been exploring local trails. The eBike has enhanced my riding and opened up terrain that I would not have encountered in the past on my 2011 trek Fuel. I also planned to ride to the top of Spray Lake road so I can ride the Goat Creek trail from Canmore to Banff. But unfortunately, Banff National Parks has banned eBikes on that and all other trails except 4 trails in the park. Which sucks. Plus, the Province of Alberta has banned eBikes on all technical trails in the Nordic Center. Which sucks too.
Wow! Dirtnvert, what an unexpected reply. I posted the photo at Goat Creek Trail with the names of the four trails that Banff permits emtb’s.
Oh ok, sorry i missed that. Thats a shame its just asphalt. There's so many good trails in bnp that were great in the 80's and 90's before everything closed to bikes. I figueed the current legal trails to mtb would allow emtb.
I wanted to do the Georgetown Interpretive loop around Rundle starting at the top of the new switchback (Legacy Trail Extention) above the hydroplant in Canmore, but it is posted no ebikes, and they have a wildlife camera stuck on the post. I have been told, most rangers in the Alberta park system are cool, but I spoke to a Banff Ranger who said she would get my attention, and that the fine is $1,200 and a mandatory court appearance and n front if a judge. I’m not willing to take a chance. I have heard that people have been on the Goat Creek trail with ebikes, that it is pretty common. But as they say, don’t do the crime if you can’t do tue time. I don’t want to pay a $1,200 fine.
Ya national park wardens will enforce anything and everything. We used to have illegal trails and theyd chase us all over and send the coos. Fines werent that steep though. Many of the crew got fined and that signalled the mass exodus of riders to golden and revelstoke. I used to hike in to the toos of the trails and hike out the bottom so theuy wouldnt see me roll out of the exit.
R120, I keep telling myself to be happy that there are places I can ride an ebike. I know hiw sad that sounds, but it helps with the mental anguish of not being able to hit some of the trails I expected to hit after I bought my Turbo Levo. I have been looking for opportunities to interact with those who make these decisions. I have heard that riders from Bragg Creek decided they like ebikes because they can get in more runs and don’t have to ferry bikes back to the top. If am waiting for them to start griping to the right people who instead of whining about ebikes putting too much use pressure in their favorite trails.
National parks move at a snails pace and mtb has been public enemy #1 for years now and only recently gained any kind of recognition.
Oh i just remembered. Im not fully up on the details of this group. I think Jerome started it and he may sell emtb's. Im not really sure. Long time mtber that used to live in banff years ago. He's been in calgary for years now.. he's good people. If youre on fb you may want to join. Theyre trying to spread the word in a very professional manner through the right channels. I have been told exactly what you say. Ebikes will be ignored on Goat Creek Trail until you get into trouble and need rescue. Then they will get your attention for rescuing you from a place you wouldn’t have attempted to ride if you didn’t have an ebike.
Thats great. Im sure the group is very inclusive and id imsgine a good resource for finding suitable trails in your area. I had forgot about that group. I try not to spend too much time on fb
Ya know, I have been amazed at how well this bike handles and consider it an engineering marvel. I never dreamed I could ride a bike over variable terrain at speed that I am able to ride. Good to know you also think the Lyric is a good fork.
