Hi
Took delivery of my Stereo 160 SL on Thursday and first 'proper' ride yesterday

Riding along one of the trails, now overgrown with ferns in places, and the base of the frame hit a tree stump. Heard a load clatter noise an the motor guard unit was off and smashed :(

Gently got the bike back to the car and as the bike shop was open Sunday, got it back in there. Looks just to be the protective guard is damaged as the motor is working fine. Appears to be no damage otherwise

Anyway...the ride....

Having owned a 2020 Levo Expert previous to this bike, i have to say, the Cube was very impressive. I would go as to say that given the choice of the two, i would opt for the Cube. And at half the price.....

It has the firmware upgrade for the 85nm and the motor was very responsive to any climbs. The narrow bars will take a little getting used to, but i can live with that. I am 5ft 8in and 84kg and i think switching back from 29" wheels to 27.5" made a lot of difference. Cornering was excellent and the bike felt very stable.I went tubeless and changed the tyres to a pair Michelin E-Wilds and again, very impressive and loads of grip

Suspension wise - good but not as plush as the Fox36/DPX2 i had on the Levo, so may have to do a bit of tuning on the Stereo suspension. Not convinced on the Magura brakes, so time will tell if i upgrade them

So will await the cost of the motor guard sleeve. Hopefully not too expensive!

I find my brakes brutal,I've never owned a bike with this spec to compare in all fairness..ive only ever owned budget hardtails (£1000range)
Now that saddle is shocking, might aswell be metal ? bars feel okay to me considering my last one was the carbon joystick which were wide but flexy, didnt instill confidence, and before those nukeproof warheads which i absolutely loved

Looks like the replacement bash guard will be the same flimsy piece of plastic that has already smashed. Seen that RockGuardz do a cover for the 2020 motor - some mixed reviews. Appears it fits on top of the plastic guard on the bike

Found the seat comfortable enough though. 2.5 hours before i hit the tree stump. 20 miles in EMTB mode and only one bar on the battery used (4 left).

my battery range is superb which I wasn't expecting given my weight and how unfit I've become, but I do purposefully try to be sparing with it..love mine as you can probably tell, its just so hard to find the time to get out on it..work is sooooo busy at the moment

Just have to use the Enduro until it gets the replacement guard. Hard work in this current heat, but could do with losing a few kg myself. This working from home for 5 months has taken it's toll. It's getting the motivation to get out. Which the Cube did...until a broke it :)

My 160 gets here Thu end of day. Dangit now I'm finding it even tougher to wait. I was wondering about bash plate down there.... Also worried about water because the main feeder trail by me has 3 stream crossings all only about 5-10 meters wide and all generally about 30cm deep on a normal day.

Seen a few posts on forums where one hit on the bash guard and it's bust! Think i may look at the RockGuardz protector which sits on top of the guard. Has a tendency to get a load or crap behind it though due to a small gap. May be better than replacing that plastic guard every time i hit something

I have 1st hand experience with Rock Guard for BOSCH Gen 4 .
They are flimsy and not engineered to last . I hit the motor case once climbing uphill over a log and it cracked and fell off !!

When I complained they told me it did its job .

I explained we ride EMTB in extreme conditions and that the impact that cracked and broke the rock guard was minimal .
Even offered to R&D a better version . They declined my offer .

So no recommendation from me ...

Think you may struggle to get that Lyrik to feel as plush and perform as you would like, it's not a great damper and you can't upgrade it. It's a very entry-level 'Lyrik'.

The Lyrik Ultimate with the 2.1 Charger is the best fork I've ridden if you can stretch to it. 800mm bars are a cheap upgrade and will change the whole feel of the bike.

We said Mulletting the bike would also make it a total ripper.

sent my RockGuardz back and they are processing a refund. Simply did'nt fit correctly and was push the side plates of the cover out, which would have opened the floodgates for water and mud. Have instead order the Stand Up product from Italy. 16 Euros shipping and about the same price as the RocgGuardz, but looks a far better fitting. @MitchF has commented on one of the threads also recommending Stand Up cover.

Has been dispatched and on its way.

But i really do wish Cube would fit a stronger motor plate cover in the first place! Quite happy to pay the extra from the outset as so far, i've had to replace the flimsy plate already at a cost of £35

The stand up pushes the side plates out as well. Water will/may get in but it’s only a cover so it’ll run straight through the bottom drain hole. It’s not a perfect seal even when seated correctly as standard.

my Stand Up plate has taken so many hits , it looks look a robot wars loser, so it’s saved my plastics many times already.

The hits are all from loose rocks, often thrown from the front wheel.

Jona, how exactly did you install your guard on top of the original? Did you use the original guard's bolts on the front or some longer ones? How about the back of the guard?
I used hex spacers in the existing screws at the front, no screws at the back, just some loop and hook tape
Don't look at the mud, I'm just back from a ride
