Come on man. An athletic man puts out the same power as the SL motor. If you put it in zimmerframes perspective it’s like being on a tandem bike with a fit man pumping away behind you. That’s plenty of power and he’s got more longevity than the higher power ones. However with medium power in the summer on a carbon bike it overheats. And I’m salty about that.

... you lost me at "a fit man pumping behind you"...😜😜😜

I am gonna put my guess that it was an Ibis he was testing? They are gonna have to get into the EMTB game sooner or later. When they do, I’d bet it would be in the SL category and not FF (and it will probably be manufactured in California, just like the Exie cross country bike). We will see. I would love an Ibis EMTB to go with my Mojo.

I’ve already paid for a Fuel EXe that will be at my dealer in about a week. Based on Rob’s review of the Fazua Ride 60 and every bit of other research I’ve done, I think the Trek with the TQ motor was the right choice. I’ll take a 50 nm motor with a little smaller battery and a silent motor over the 60 nm Fazua. I think the Trek looks less like an EMTB than either the Pivot or the Transition (although these two hardly look like an EMTB also), which is also something I wanted. There are too many places in the US that still don’t allow EMTB. I will not hesitate to ride that Trek on any trail in the US, including Moab and Sedona.

I am also interested to hear Rob’s thought on the TQ vs. the Fazua Ride 60.

...I agree that the appeal of the Trek, Pivot, or Transition is that they don't look like an E Bike!... when we riding Sedona?!?!

I know what company this is but I can’t think of it right now, the frame was “accidentally” shown in the EMBN Fazua video. I’ve been scattered brained since starting daddy daycare this week!

I didn’t expect it be be a bike guessing game, but the intrigue is definitely brewing!

I’ll definitely do a TQ vs Fazua Ride 60 detailed comparison video.

Future is looking bright for lightweight ebikes for sure!

I am down. I’d have to ride my Ibis Mojo or wife’s Turbo Levo SL until my Trek shows up. Trek will be here in a week, but then they need to strip that 9.5 down to the frame and build it per my specs. I’ve already ordered all the parts and they should also be here next week.

I live in Mesa, only a couple hours from Sedona, where are you at?

... in Washington State, but travel down that way a few times a year...I hear Sedona is an AWESOME place to ride!

Atherton branch out ?

Or a total newcomer ? Rob Warner Bikes ? Comes with a complete tool hit (a hammer) and a manual which will be reviewed as "The most riveting and Adrenalin filled read in decades. With more expletives than a football match - not for the faint hearted"

I'm upgrading my eZesty to a ride 50 but I'll still be able to use the Evation motor, so I can compare them directly.
Gordon, if you haven't already upgraded, I probably wouldn't. I have both motors and yes there is a slight difference but not really that noticeable for the pound notes its going to cost you. Spend you money on another battery perhaps instead.

The big upgrade you can do on the Fazua is derestrict it, it just makes the motor feel like a completely different motor. On the Ezesty you always seem to be in that 25kph bracket where ever you seem to go and the motor is on and off more than a pair of incontinent old mans draws. I actually wonder whether a lot of the criticism the 50 line gets is more to do with people not realising the speed they are doing as there is no speed display.

Yes my Garmin works with the Fazua, you need to download the latest firmware and software and then go through the linking process. I think there is now also a couple of Garmin displays available as well with all the motor info on it.

I rode it in Turbo and maxxed out the assistance to kick in at minimum pedal effort. Here is the Fazua Ride 60 Range and early thoughts.
Not wanting to dampen your enthusiasm but is that really a fair test. Anybody can set max power, anybody can set max response, but does that give a true overall representation of what the motor is really like when riding the trails ?

Of course its a test, why wouldnt it be?! I've also ridden the bike many times in all the various modes over the past few weeks, but this was a power / range test, for my comparisons vs similar bikes in the same trails / terrain.

Fair enough but could you clarify things a bit at the beginning that you are going to rag the motor at full power and you are only interested in the range it can produce over 1000m's of climb. Is that really a test of the motor ?

Mind you 25km and 1000m of climb at full power must put it up there with some of the full fat motors with much larger motors and batteries.

Local Trek store has a 2021 Domane LT+ with the Fazua 50 motor/battery system. There is a motor spec plate on the rear chain stay that indicates Power: 250W, Peak Power: 400W, Max Torque: 60Nm. These peak numbers seem similar to the new Fazua 60 system....

Like he said "early thoughts". It's actually quite a good test because it gives you an idea of whats the minimum you can expect with a baseline of KM/meters climbed.

He did say he did the test just in Turbo ?? :)

The problem with everyones questions of "What range do you get" is that it depends on so many factors, weight, altitude, terrain, tyres, tyre pressures, how you ride, how fast you ride, if you ride over the assistance. Then everyone dashes out and buys there Orbea Rise and only gets 20k out of it when they expect 50k like someone else got which they read on a forum.

As an example, I like the Bosch Gen4 .. It seems exceedingly efficient. I think a lot of that is just in how it delivers the power and it tricks you into providing a bit more than some of the other motors do in a similar situation - rather than just some magical efficiency conjured up from nowhere.

My best out of a 625w battery on a 26kg Jam2 - with about 10% left.

But you couldn't expect anyone to get that from it and I doubt I'd be able to do the same again - it killed me. It means absolutely nothing.

However, with an idea of what the max power is and how long that lasts, you know you can improve on that. On it's lowest setting, there's a good chance he could get 2000m climbing - that's a lot of descents !

Maybe, but it does annoy me sometimes when biking journos pop up with the latest release motor and then do a test giving initial thoughts on the motor when infact all they have done is a battery test.

In my view that battery test giving Km/metres is probably one of the least informative when I could go out and buy a TSDZ2 engine at £ 250.00 and give you almost identical figures over a 1000 metre test ride.

Like it or not, it is an influential factor for many - even more so with a "lightweight" where you have a smaller battery than normal.

I believe also that historically, one of the biggest complaints with the old Fazua was the lack of range if you used it in Turbo ? So Obviously you'd be interested to see how the new one compared ?

That motor would be "ball park" similar performance ? The range on max power would depend on your battery ?

I thought he made it fairly clear it was just a quick overview of first thoughts on a single ride ? Giving us access to some information on some basics and other things we know nothing about other than pictures we've seen, like switch gear and lights.

I don't think we can complain that someone hasn't done an indepth review when they clearly said it's just their "early thoughts". I think most are thankful for the information which was provided ? Rather than leaving us hanging with nothing until a full review is done ??

I didnt state anywhere that its an in depth long term test... But feedback noted :)

I said:

It's not to be taken as anything other than that. I'll try to do some more long term stuff, but, since the motor is pretty much brand new there's limited time to conduct such long term analysis at the moment!

The most common question on any motor test is Range, so I thought this early thoughts thread may be of some use / info :)

I think you should do a range test between the John Doe, Carbon Rise, Alloy Rise, Pivot SL, Trek Fuel, Levo SL, Kenevo SL, Syrion (it would be in it's element with no electronics required) - with the power off.

I'd be interested in the results and it would make a really interesting video if you didn't edit it.

I appreciate Rob that a lot of readers put such weight on range, but in reality a bike motor is just that a bike motor, whose DC design has been long detailed since milk floats abounded. There's not much new on DC motors other than computer controlling the field windings and even that has been around for a decades. Given 450Wh's of battery with the same weight of all up bike and rider over the same climb at full chat, every brand will be pretty similar, thats just how it is.

Perhaps we should get you journos to educate their readers that range is in reality one of the least desirable tests to base on the next time they get their wallets out to buy a new stead.

As there’s no exact scientific method of comparing motors due to being too many variables in the equation, I think the turbo ride gives us a good ‘rough’ idea of what a motor is capable of. Rob’s Ride was very similar in terms of distance & elevation to my Sunday morning ride I posted yesterday in this thread, so it provides me with a ‘rough’ idea of what the Fazua 60 is capable of
