Endura MT500 freezing point jacket

Yeah ..I've got a freezing point Jacket ..as well as 2x "Hard Shell" ( for want of a better word) and 1x Soft Shell..all MT500's.
It's a very warm jacket and you don't need to wear too many layers underneath when the temperature is sub zero..but its about as waterproof as blotting paper...saying that it will still keep you relatively warm even when soaked ..but it won't be lightweight.
My favourite is the soft shell for fit & feel and it does a reasonable job of keeping you dry ..but if it's teeming down the "hardshell" ..and hence the most expensive to buy is the one to wear .
As you may have realised I'm a fan of the brand and the oldest of the Jackets is getting on a bit and needs re-proofing frequently ..but as Jackware has highlighted above ..plenty of other jackets to consider ..
Edit : The Freezing Point Jacket was bought after my own input on the thread above ..I already had the softshell at that point but didn't consider it a " full" waterproof .

Thanks for the hint, ordered one. Have been missing jacket between thicker softshell and thinner waterproof jacket.

Thanks for the info lads, going to order it today, its more for keeping warm on cold but dry days than keeping me dry from the rain so should fit the bill.

Do anyone know the difference between "freezing point " and "freeing point II" or have a picture of the first version?
On some sites the price is lower than from Endura shop but the title lacks of "II" even if the model seems the same.

Small. I have XL in Endura and XXL in Gorewear. I had tried the Lupra and the GTX Endure in a store but decided for the EndurA Waterproof jacket as more robust material and better options for ventilation. I did not go for the EndurA Freezing Point as said to be really(!!!) warm.

Small. I have XL in Endura and XXL in Gorewear. I had tried the Lupra and the GTX Endure in a store but decided for the EndurA Waterproof jacket as more robust material and better options for ventilation. I did not go for the EndurA Freezing Point as said to be really(!!!) warm.

Thanks. I have Endura GV500 Jacket, good for the rain but otherwise too hot. Odly short from the front…..anyway needed more breathable jacket when it`s colder and wet but not raining. I think Lupra will be perfect and Large will be just fine. I have Vaude Windry jacket for commuting through winter but it`s too hot for mtb if it`s over -5 celsius, so only for colder days. Great jacket, unbelievable waterproof even it shouldn`t be

I've found that a rain shell with layers suits me best, and for biking armpit vents are a must have. For the last 3 years I've been using the Black Diamond Stormline stretch rain jackets. They're waterproof, stretchy, fairly tough and they have pit zips unlike most mtb jackets I've seen. The price, at $200 cdn, is reasonable as well.

I'm in northern Ontario canada and wear this jacket in the spring, fall and into early winter. Thin fleece layers do wonders for warmth underneath.

I don't have a freezing Point jacket, but I got MT500 II waterproof jacket. Jeep in mind the sizing is weird.
With their jersey I need Medium(EU Medium Mavic, XL Fox, L Alpinestars) but sleeve is longer than those, but with their jacket I need 3XL to have room for my shoulders, not have too tight armpit, and to be able to get wrist braces trough the sleeve, and have long enough sleeve, Medium was recommended by the size chart, model was same size as me on the picture, it looked wrong on him, so went for XL, then XXL, both were too tight and sleeves too short.
But the 3XL has too big hood, so big it covers my face, but the sleeves are perfect.
They fit Mobius X8 wrist braces.

The pictures shows the sleeve of 3XL/XXXL jacket.

With the Sleeve being this long I won't get water in, nor snow, no matter how I ride, how aggressive position I'm in. Also if wearing appropriate gloves and tighten the sleeve I won't get snow in side.
I suspect the fit is the same on Freezing Point too.
My arms are ca 30/30cm
I use the jacket in -10C with Swix Race X base layer and a jersey I stay warm, So one jacket works well for me in the spring, autumn and winter.
I've not tried Freezing Point jacket yet. I might try it if I find a good deal. But it's more for those even colder rides, if it's below -10C, definitely a good idea for -20C.
I've had it for 4 years.
The main zipper is not a coil zipper, so it lasts a long time.

If your inseam is 82cm go for large trousers/pants, but belt area will be way too big, so you need to use a belt. Knees will be too baggy.
Some have complained online their jackets leak, but i've not had this experience, I was in brutal rain, winds, crashed in snow, no issues.

But if you have size 11 cm wide, 27.5 cm long feet you need to avoid their shoes, I tried the MT500 shoes, there's not enough room for the pinkie, the toe gets squeezed, no room above it. If you thought Five Ten, Ride Concepts were too tight, these are much worse.

Glove sizing: Medium equals Medium Leatt, thus I think Small equals Small too, but not tried it. S Leatt is Medium Poc.

Think it may also be enforced by airflow entering around the neck going down in the jacket to the waist and out again? Even I tried to close that inlet also as as much as possible.

Sizing:
I'm 181cm, quite average build, not massive biceps, or wide shoulders. The sizing is simply strange. For optimal sizing I would need the 3XL sleeves, XL torso as then it wouldn't be so baggy, and hoodie. I have a Singletrack 2 jersey in medium it fits me quite well, with room to spare.
I have quite skinny arms, but sizing is made for stick person.

Stay warm:
Make sure the jacket isn't letting water in. Yours might be fault, letting water and wind in. If it's not that, you mgiht have washed or wore away the waterproofing. If that's the case you need to re-impregnate it using a spray. Eedura has a spray: Endura UK if you can't get that, maybe Toko waterproofing sporay would do the job, I've used it in the past, but not on an Endura jacket. Do a sprint to warm up.
Wear a base layer and a jersey if you are cold.
Make sure side vents are shut. Keep pockets closed.
Tighten the bottom band so the jacket isn't baggy.
Tighten collar, wear a buff., this will stop cold air from getting into the neck area and then upper back.
The wrist straps will only stop air from coming into the sleeves, it won't do anything for your back.
If you keep getting cold at the back, the jacket might bee faulty or you have a more cold sensitive back.
I live in Norway, so I'm used to much colder temps, and I eventually can tolerate colder and colder, and it feels warmer than it was at the start of the winter, despite being same temp.
I recommend to wear a base layer, a a thicker more tightly woven jersey underneath. For summer use I have thin ones, more airy, but for winter use that's not optimal.
I use a Swix Race X Marino wool base layer. I can wear it down to -10C and stay warm, even below.

I always wear a backpack, but I've never felt cold when taking it off.
So my question is what are you wearing beneath? keep in mind you shouldn't be wearing it directly on the skin, then the cold will be transferred to the skin.

Having test the last days with other jackets and underlayers I think it may be some kind of windchill factor in the back of the body. A thicker layer in the back only should help.

Does anyone know a midlayer jersey/underlayer that is more isolated on the backside only? Otherwise I might be looking out in the neighborhood to find a handsome cat fur.

Jacket is not washed neither faulty, yet not worn often. Whatever can be closed is closed / tightened. I go light wear all year and have been for leisure and work in temperatures down to -30C.

Example:
1-2 hrs eMTB tour or 30min commuting with trekking bike to work.
Dry weather, 5-10C, no backpack (not always needed for my nearby home trails or when using commuter bags on the bike rack(?))
Long pants, helmet, gloves, jacket MT500 waterproof, Buff neckwear plus thin dry base layer T-shirt short (sometimes long)
- Option A added by functional ski underlayer (long neck)
- Option B added by functional fleece underlayer

Result:
Cold feeling in the back.

If I layer up more it will become tropical inside.

Solution: Do not use waterproofs when it's not raining, they are done only for rainy days, you cannot get your gear to work because you should layer up, but as you said, you will get hot. Buy windproof but breathing jacket, layer up and be happy
