Hi folks!

Hoping some of you can help me out.
My suntour 190x50 died of the lady's EMTB.

I am looking for an replacement, I had a hard time finding a shock which would also be compatible for an emtb, but does it matter??

It's an older bike, but should do for a while ...https://archiv.cube.eu/nl/2019/236110

I checked rockshox they mention the following.

At Fox I can't really tell. Would a fox float just do? Any tips I should look at? It should be a solid shock, but she's not in to real jumps or whatsoever. Thanks champs!

Something like this would do the job and considerably cheaper.

Don't worry about the whole emtb thing. A shock is a shock. Some have an ebike tune on them and maybe some more robust internals but none of my forks or shocks are ebike specific. It's not an issue; you might get a better ride offroad with an ebike specific tune but shouldn't be a major concern.
Important stuff is shock length (eye to eye), stroke length and the mount type. After that it's all just features you want for adjustability e.g. piggy back chamber (if the bike can fit it), lockout; hsc/lsc, rebound etc......

You could consider a fox float dps - great shock - it comes in that size (is on my SC Tallboy) - they also come up secondhand…

Eg at my local bike shop:

That Rockshox from Merlin looks like a great deal.
But also the Rockshox Monarch is a good option.

Two points:
  • Monarch shocks may be old design, but they are still on sale brand new and even old ones can be serviced. My grandson's 10-year old Monarch Plus RC3 was recently serviced and had the stanchion replaced, all by TF Tuned.
  • I am fairly sure that the 45mm stroke can be altered to 50mm stroke by swapping or altering a spacer inside the shock. Contact TF Tuned and they will tell you if it can be done and how easy it is to do. They may even sell you the spacer. Instructions on YouTube.
TF Tuned contacts:

PS: I would not worry about whether the shock is designated for emtb or not. Suspension has to deal with light guys on a heavy bike as well as heavy guys on a light bike, or any other combination.

Thanks champs! Currently looking into these 2 shocks, both close with 190x51.

Monarch rt3

Monarch plus RC3

Bikes still in maintainance, so still have some time to decide

The Monarch RT3 is a good shock, the Monarch Plus RC3 is a very good shock.
My burly 17-years old grandson rides the Plus RC3 on his Orange Five and he loves it!
