Hi all,

I'm planning to replace all the bearings in my bike again. The shop where I bought it did it a few years ago.
So well needed at this stage again.
I have all the bearings S/S versions (parts names available on request, reply to thread if needed).
I was just wondering about the main pivot bearing / rocker bolt. I notice that there is only one access side (non-drive side). So how does one extract the non-drive side bearing? Is it hard to replace that bearing assembly myself? Do you have to poke/press it out from the non-drive side opening in the frame, which is only the width of the bolt shaft thread?
Or do they generally just slide out (best case scenario, lol, probably rusted in there tf)?

You knock each bearing out from the opposite side.
i.e left side bearing is tapped out from the right side of the frame.
A thin drift or flat screwdriver at a push is lined up in the groove in the spacer shown above.
Tap gently in one then the other and alternate until it pops out.

The spacer can then be removed so the second bearing is usually easier to remove.

A complete set of bearings for the whole bike can be bought from Kinetic bearings (assuming yours is the same year)

Thanks for the reply.
Although with my specific CUBE AT 160 HPC 500 (2019) you can't knock each bearing out from the opposite side.
There's only one side open, like a Smarties tube. Open one end. Except, for a 5mm hole on the drive-side, behind the chainstay protection tape. Non-drive side is open.

Drive Side Main Pivot Bearing Access, nothing but a thread where the Pivot bolt threads into the frame (Photo #2).

Bearings needed, for full frame service. 12 total. Not including Main Pivot/Rocker Bolt.


Main Pivot/Rocker bolt (or similar, this is not an exact match, I'm currently trying to find a MY19 Rocker Bolt):

I think its still as I described, but you'll need to do a bit more disassembly to get at the bearing 'carrier'.

The whole lower swing arm needs removing, and you'll probably need to remove the two cables shown in your drive side picture.
Unscrew the long bolt from the non drive side and either lift up or down the 'arm' and you should see a bearing on each side of the main frame. You'll also probably discover a shaped 'washer' that will fall out of each side as you move it.

I haven't seen a 2019 frame in the flesh so I'm going on pictures I've seen in posts on this forum.

You need to remove the cable and brake hose so you can get the rear triangle off the bike and onto a bench.
A blind bearing puller might help to remove the old bearings but you can manage without

Yeah, viewing it in the daylight, it's quite obvious that the bearings should be in the main frame, and not the swing arms. Pity I went and rounded out the allen key main pivot bolt ending. I tried first with a mini-tool, that fitted but not enough torque. So I took out my torque wrench, and tried that. It turned, but far too easy. Looking down, it had rounded the hole. Turns out the torque wrench allen key size was about 0.25mm too small. Doh.
This is looking more and more like a bike shop job now.

If you use a Torx bit that is a bit too big and hammer it in, there's a good chance you'll be able to unscrew the bolt.
A careful spray of penetrating fluid/WD40 etc may make things easier. You'll probably need a new bolt now though.

Yup I've watched videos on this before. Also had to drill out bolts before. I might leave it to the bike shop now, though.
I've also contacted the LBS to see if they have the Rocker Bolt still in stock. They sell a lot of Cubes eMtbs, for years now, so I'm hoping they have a few in a box. If not, they know the part number to reorder, hopefully.
I would be able to do this myself with the right tools, I have been buying for years, and only have 1/2 of the tools I need though. Loads of spare parts, but not the right tools. Ha.

These are nice bikes. Tough, heavy, but strong. I've replaced most parts on mine already. Mostly myself.
Took off Original SRAM EX-1 11sp that came with the 2019 model. Too expensive to buy cassettes for it, €399 a pop.
I put an XT 11sp on next, good, but now I have it running on Shimano XT Link-glide 11sp.
DTSwiss EX511 wheels (need two new spokes in front), Hope Pro4s, Atlas Mo Money 'Kashima' Bars, SMP saddle , Tanwall Shwalbes, Hope Headset, 165mm Hope Cranks, CrankBrothers Stamp pedals. I have RaceFace Affect2 Metal Orange Pedals for it, but I forgot to grease the Crankbrothers. Left pedal is seized on. LBS tried blowtorching it. Not moving.

Bike needs ongoing work. Endless expense, but kinda worth it.

I am planning on getting it resprayed in a few months. €120 Euros for a frame Two Colour PowderCoat near me.
Maybe dark Army Green? Not sure yet. Paintwork is pretty chipped. I tried to get Touchup paints from Cube, MY19 touchup paint doesn't exist anymore. I think. And it's embarrassing asking in the local Chemists for nail varnish.

Beast of a bike, but expensive to maintain when in solid week in / week out use.
I bring it to Ticknock MTB Trails, and GAP (Glencullen Adventure Park).
Both in Dublin, Ireland.

I'd like to bring it to Dyfy or BPW some time in the future, if it's still working.

Yep I purchased a set of the blond puller kit when it comes to removing bearing you ca you brass punches but your not knocking them out squarely

What year and model number is your bike? Did you ask the bike shop or supplier if they had any in stock, and are you sure it's that part number?

Mine is cube stereo 160 TM hybrid, same as all action apart from upgrades, 2021. Frame etc the same.
