Charger temp

2017 levo 1500kms / 40 charges so far. My charger gets really hot. Like, almost too hot to touch. This is whether I am charging back up from fully drained or from 50%. It doesn't get hot topping off - like from 90-100%. Battery doesn't feel hot, or cord. It is plugged into a power strip. How hot should that thing get?

I think that it is quite normal, I have a 2018 Levo FSR and a 2019 Levo HT and both chargers get hot while charging.

Im an electrical engineer and would say this is normal, the charger is converting 240V AC to 48V DC and charging a battery of >500Wh. All chargers in general get warm, the heat loss is the result of the step down in power from mains.

About 160W being supplied by the charger, assume 85% efficient, around 24W being disippated in the charger, a small plastic box without a cooling fan. It will get hot, but still a lot lower than the component failure temperatures. Don’t worry.

I have also been concerned with the temp of the charger but have not seen any threads about premature failure. I keep mine on top of some sockets to act as a heatsink and allow airflow under it.

Don’t lay it on the carpet. I put a small dinner plate, upside down, then put my charger on top of that. The ‘raised bit’ allows air to circulate underneath too ? The plate does a great job of dissipating heat.
