Levo Gen 2 Changing out the Codes for Magura Setup

Curious what the consensus is on going 203 vs the 220 rotors? Was planning to go 203mm two piece but those seem to be in short supply. 220s are available (obviously need a different adapter) but anyone have any issues or informed opinions? Will be running the new setup on my 2019 Levo Expert

I have the mt7 (with shimano XT Levers as I never got along with the stock MT7 levers) and 203/180mm on my SL right now. I also am running MTX brake pads, which are ceramic, and I have found have better stopping power overall.

I can’t comment on the 220, but I feel that the 203 is plenty of modulation + stopping power for most riding. It would be interesting to try the 220s someday, but in most scenarios, I don’t feel like they are justified (for me personally). If was doing 2000ft+ / 20% descents on the regular, that extra heat dissipation could be of benefit. These rotors and brakes do get pretty toasty!

Mt7, 220fr mdpr 200rr mdpr. With 200front and rear didn't felt like it lacked power but hey.. More is better right? Want to try 220 f and r someday.

Completed the swap today. Went pretty easy other than I initially botched the rear caliper bleed because I rushed and didn’t purge the syringe after bleeding the front. Plus I accidentally contaminated the back pads with brake fluid which basically made for a soft sponge when trying to stop. Fortunately I had back ups and swapped them in and all was good. The Rockshox double barbed connector was clutch when feeding the new line thru the frame. Magura hose actually slid thru better than the stock SRAM hose. The 220 rotors are huge but fit front and rear (bit tight but works). Waiting for some time to get out and put them to the real test. Curious for others that have made the change what are you using for pads?

i would not get a 220 1 piece rotor, too much flex, a 200mm 1-piece is really pushing it also imo.

Plus they just look better too of course.

If you had a choice between a 220 1 piece, and 200mm 2-piece would take the 2 piece all day long, even if 180mm.

I ran a 220 MDR P on the front all last summer and was very happy. That and some Kevlar pads completely transformed the Guide RE's in a good way. For my weight and riding there was no need to go large on the back. Note that the Magura's are significantly thicker than the stock SRAM rotors so alignment is more tricky. With the old rotors I could just tighten the caliper bolts while squeezing the levers and it would be pretty close. With the thick Maguras I need to carefully move the caliper while spinning the wheel to get it to the precise position where it doesn't drag. It's kind of a pain, especially with thicker pads, but worth it for the much better braking.

Agree on assessment above. Got to watch your fingers while doing it! Caught a knuckle in the spokes of the disc by not paying close enough attention!
