You're allowed to want a side stand . I will point out one other problem with off road side / kick stands; they are generally held up with a spring or detent. If you're going over rough ground, as in general mtb riding, the stand can bounce down. It may even stay down. Have a look at off road motorcycles - they're quite a different design to those used on the road - they swing up higher. The most tension for them is when the stand is at horizontal. In their resting position, above horizontal, the spring is slightly relaxed - it has to go through a highest tension point to swing it down. Even these bounce about a bit like the chain on our bikes over rough stuff. I'm guessing with our light weight frames you could be looking at metal fatigue too - it maybe one area where cf frame is better? And, again from my motorcycling background, if it's for dirt, it needs a big foot. One of many reasons that side stands fail, is sinking into soft ground. Those centre stands you showed in your photo are much more reliable, but would never work with emtb. I had a little road motorcycle that I used as an adventure bike and cut the side stand off (bracket and all) with an angle grinder, and just used the centre stand. The centre stand was much more usable off road.lol
Just came across a few instances where i thought it would be convenient if my bike could just be parked standing on it's own
