I’ll take a pic. There’s a chip on mine that looks like clear coat came off with some carbon. They’re super shiny so not sure what’s used to make them so shiny on top (all of my other carbon bike parts have always been matte or dull finished) but the carbon inside just looks like Pencil graphite. I ordered them directly from WAO.

The finish would be due to the resin they use. I know for a fact the wheels are not clear coated. They are sold exactly how they come out of the mold. I run WAO handle bars and they have the same finish as the rims. It’s just raw carbon with a shiny finish from the resin they use.

WAO do get a quick polish after they come out of the mold, but it's still just a raw carbon and resin that give it the finish. No clear coat or paint on them.

If it’s not too much can you post a pic. I know I can google it but real life pics would be better. I just got a spare set of race face carbon bars for the DH bike but I can always save that for replacing my wrecked enve bars.

I know it's been a while since your post. Im looking at buying a set of We Are One wheels (Union) on I9 hubs for my Orbea Rise. I'm wondering how your wheels are going. Would you recommend them? Also, any issues with Warranty?

Definitely recommend them, I personally went with DT Swiss 240 hubs over Hydras though.

I have probably 2000km of hard enduro riding on mine with no issues.

I don’t really think there’s much difference in price between the two.

Personally I just don’t like the sound of the Hydras. Personal choice, that’s all.

WAO wheels are flawless. Chris king would last you longer. Hydras are a bit annoying at low speeds.

I never had a problem with my We Are One wheels on my Levo. I can also say that I can't really tell the difference between carbon and alloy, to me it's psychological and they look cool because I've been brainwashed by big carbon-fiber to like carbon fiber. So do I recommend them? sure, but not for rational reasons.

You haven't noticed that you don't have to worry about loose spokes all the time like you would with alloy rims?
I check mine out of habit but can honestly say that they're never loose or needing adjustment. It's crazy how they stay trued compared to alloy rims.

sounds fair. I personally have not noticed but that doesn't mean much.

You must be riding much harder than I am to be getting loose spokes on your alloy rims. I have both DT Swiss 511 and WeAreOne rims with Cushcore and beside the weight difference, I have not noticed a significant difference in performance, The biggest difference will be on your VISA bill.

Really? I found I was constantly chasing loose spokes with both my RaceFace ARC30 rims and Stans Flow EX3 rims. Never had that issue with my WeR1’s.

Also you start replacing a few alloy rims a year and the price argument kind of goes out the window.

I have the same EX 511 rims on 3 bikes for the past 3 years and have not had to replace them yet. I am pleased with the Cushcore inserts we use on all our wheels. How do you break so many rims?

There is nothing that stands out in my mind. I run the WeAreOne wheels when I have to pedal up a hill and the EX511 wheels at Whislter mostly because they have different tires on the wheels also because I don't want to take a chance of breaking the $2000 carbon wheels as I wouldn't be able to use them while they are being warranty repaired.

Yep. raceface are junk. They come on the Santa Cruz V10 and the back wheel was out of true after a couple days.

I would definitely agree with the older ones, but I've found the newest ARC rims are actually pretty good. They've held up allot better them many other popular brands that I've seen. And our shop has a bunch of customers riding them and they're holding up really well.

Yeah, maybe my experience has more to do with customers and myself using the ARC's for trail and enduro riding and not DH/Bike Park riding.

I’m going to pick up a pair of unions for my Heckler to replace the ARC/e13s that came stock. Still trying to decide whether to go with the 101 or Hydra. Hmm? It’s an extra $226 for Hydra.

I’m pretty over the buzz of the hydra. Can’t wait until there’s a silent hub for an e-bike.

Is the onyx vesper not rated for e-bike? Personally I have more faith in durability of the i9 products and then there’s the EP8 rattle, so why bother with silent hubs on this bike?
