Just a heads up, to anybody who maybe thinking about buying an Orbea Wild carbon frame bike, in raw carbon titanium finish. I recently bought a brand new 2023/24 model year bike, with the raw carbon finish. To say I am disappointed, in the quality control on the way the raw carbon looks, is an understatement. I knew that having a raw carbon frame finish, I would see the carbon shades and shapes, but I didn’t expect a finish where it looks like the manufacturer has sprayed parts of the down tube (or some other process), to quite possibly hide defects or something, this is what it looks like to me!

Anyway I contacted Orbea, sent photos and informed of my disappointment of the finished appearance of the raw carbon frame. They have now replied and said “In short, as I said, we did not notice any anomaly. And, furthermore, I would like to take this opportunity to emphasise that since this is all part of the frame standards, it does not cause any quality or structural problems.”

They do not see a problem and that’s the end of the matter, as far as they are concerned.

So anybody that is thinking of buying a raw carbon titanium finish Orbea Wild, please be prepared to be disappointed with the look and finish, because Orbea clearly don’t have very high standards, when it comes to the finish for the raw carbon frame! I have included some photos for you to make your own minds up! It’s the areas that look like they have been sprayed, which is my disappointment, obviously you can see parts of the frame that has the raw carbon look, which is fine, but I didn’t expect the areas that look like they have been sprayed, to possibly hide the finish underneath!

I also asked about if in the future I wanted to have the frame sprayed by a professional frame painter, would this effect the warrant, they didn’t reply to that question! As much as I like my Wild, the response I got from Orbea, leads me to believe that quality control and customer satisfaction with their products, is pretty low on their priorities (especially when you consider the cost of emtbks), so I won’t be buying another Orbea in the future.

Yep. Looks just like mine.

I was pissed at first ( not my first carbon Orbea) but now I just ride it and not worry about scratches.

This is a colour you shall see before ordering. Or buying it gloss instead of Matt.
But it's not defective. It's like that.

Does look like it’s been “touched up”. They are lacquered with slight tint, but that looks rather poorly finished. My wild paint isn’t great either.

It should be like that, that's why it's called raw. Check this new cube, it has similar colour:

I happened to be in an Orbea dealers shop last week and saw the O Wild in raw carbon. I have to agree. It was atrocious in my opinion. I've never seen raw carbon frame that looked so crappy. I wanted to ask a salesman if that was truly how it was supposed to look. Yes we all know that how it rides is of course what counts, but come on. I'd be pretty tweaked if I bought one w/o seeing it in person first and that's what I saw after opening the box....

My gripe is with the area highlighted with red, it just looks like it’s been sprayed over and not very well. Yes it’s the way it rides that’s important, but come on, these bikes are not cheap Chinese knock off’s, they are supposed to be a high cost quality product!

Anyway Orbea don’t give two monkey’s, so I’ll have to live with it, but will never buy from them again.

I've got 23 wild limited, with an absolutely killer custom paint job, 900 miles scratched to shit. I have friends who have naked aluminum frames, they look great, sand with 200 paper returns it to "showroom".

I know the solution I'll buy another bike!

Warm Regards Ruti

I have no idea how someone can buy a "raw" carbon frame and then complain about irregularities in the finish. Those irregularities are precisely why bike companies paint their frames. If you didn't want irregularities why did you order it raw?

By the way, I think that orbea wild LTD is still one of the best bikes on the market today even with the Gen 4 Bosch. The Gen 5 doesn't add much IMO and that bike is an absolute beast, I ride it several times a week on ridiculous Enduro trails and it crushes

That's not raw, where it is raw it looks awesome.
The whole thing still looks great and I'm sure it rides awesome. Just enjoy 😉

A raw carbon frame looks fine, but a raw carbon frame that looks like it’s been sprayed black in 2 large areas on the down tube (which looks like someone has just used a rattle can, looks cr@p imho).
I would just suggest to Alfmeister to cover said areas with satin PPF and when the warranty runs out get or do a nice paint job. If you ever buy another EMTB, look elsewhere to spend your hard earned cash 👍🏻.
