Bosch Motor Update Printout

I've just had a 100 mile round trip to update my two Gen 4 motors.

The motor report lists the type of bike and motor as "Cruise". I was sure that this was the description of the Gen 2 units but the dealer is insisting that he has done this correctly.

This is what the relevant section looks like:

Has anyone got a similar report listing that they can check and can give me if it is different?

TIA

My report looks the same. It's completely normal: cruise means pedelec with assistance up to 25 km/h (as opposed to 45 km/h speed pedelec).

Thanks.
After the update the bike feels really strange: there is almost no difference between Tour, EMTB and Turbo. The variable power for EMTB seems to have gone as well. The motor feels absolutely dead :(

There's more than one setting the dealer can select on that update, unfortunately the only way to tell which the dealer selected will be to plug the bike back into the diagnostics.

Ah, that would explain it... Oh well, it's only a 200mile round trip...

Have you any idea what the setting is called? Or where it's located in their screen? I think the bike shop were a bit confused because they were using the Trek stamped version of the Bosch software on my Focus which meant that most of the settings threw an error or gave a zero.

EMTB variates between Tour and Turbo mode so its normal in some situations that you dont feel difference between Tour and EMTB or Turbo and EMTB but you definitely have to feel the difference between Tour and Turbo even on a flat asphalt road. If they feel the same then somethings not right with your bike.

After connecting via USB the program will show the available software versions for your model in a popup window. The dealer has to make the selection between the 6 versions (85Nm/75Nm/EMTB/Sport/Short crank/Long crank).

Well.... he claimed he had selected 85Nm and the Purion shows EMTB rather than Sport, so I guess that's been done correctly.

It was a slow ride this morning with a bunch of very old chaps, so I didn't want to go haring off by myself. The difference on the flat between the modes was barely noticeable between the top three, and there was no noticeable "kick" as I pushed hard uphill in EMTB. I'll give it a workout on a couple of steep hills tomorrow morning. If EMTB isn't working properly, I won't make it up to the top.

It could just be that the motor is now working so much more "progressive" and "natural" (being the descriptions from the journos) that the kick has been done away with. But so has that hand on my back making me want to go faster and faster in EMTB. It really has taken the fun out of the ride - or, at least, this morning it seemed to.

Go to a flat quiet street with even surface and select EMTB mode. Start riding while pedalling very lightly. After 10 meters or so make 2 full crank rotations while applying heavy force on the pedals and at the end of the second full rotation abruptly stop applying any force on the pedals. At this exact moment the motor will kick into full torque mode and push you with 85Nm for 1-2 seconds even if you're not pedalling at all! It's short but you definitely have to feel ("hand on your back") and hear it!

You should definitely feel the upgrade. For me, even eco felt more "powerful" and tour is now what I use most (emtb before). I specifically Rode 12 mile to the LBS to gauge the difference on the return journey.
I have taken note of the change as it is very important for me due to two recent heart attacks in past 3 months and now using my bike as rehab with HR monitor and cadence feedback (keeping in a zone v perceived effort and exhaustion).
The motor is a peach now, even though it was great before. As stated, you should feel the difference. Btw, the cruise printout was on mine also.
Good Luck with the re-programme.

I spoke to a Bosch rep and they said they were producing a new OAP version of the firmware to cater for certain riders.

It should have less power as some riders were finding it all a bit too fast. Compensation was being requested for lost toupee's & false teeth.

They've also dumbed it down, a lot of riders, like @GrahamPaul were getting confused with all the different and complicated mode settings. Now no matter what you select, you just get the same settings.

With the reduced power, range has been considerably extended. Some riders were bumbling around lost for hours, now, hopefully, they can get home.

Well... I tried that on both my bike and my missus' little S-framed bike with my knees under my chin. On two full crank rotations I heard... nothing - 'cos both bikes were doing 30km/hr! ?

Yesterday I was riding with the old boys so had to behave. This morning I took the bike out for a couple of hundred metres of climbing. I think the results speak for themselves...

It was pretty obvious why I'd got it all wrong. Both bikes have had no updates at all until this one. Power delivery was pretty ragged and the motors on both bikes screamed like banshees in EMTB when being pedalled at 90rpm up 20% inclines.

The software update has quietened the motors really noticeably - so noticeably that I thought they'd had a downgrade.

The power delivery is considerably smoother - there is no "kick" in EMTB and, sadly, there is no "hand on my back" pushing me on to go faster and faster. I think I'm going to miss that bonkers feeling (acceleration junkie). But, as I say, the results speak for themselves.

Thanks for the advice and encouragement.

I've just had a closer look at the stats. It's all definitely down to the motor. There is no way this decrepit OAP could have taken 30 seconds off both KOMs, set by lads half my age, without a great deal of mechanical assistance!

I withdraw all my criticism. I'm impressed!

I was impressed with that VAM !

You know the problem now though .... other e-bikers will see you and shout "Cheat" .. o_O :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::p

Viagra ... gets you up faster ...

One of those KOM's didn't even last the day. I'm not the only one to have got the motor software upgraded ? ? ?

And I guess the VAM shows the effect of the motor big time: when I'm in the Alps on my hamster wheel, I reckon on climbing 400m/hour on a loaded touring bike... ?

Well, you still have the crazy VAM one ! .. KOM's - we're only looking after them for the next person

You need to drop down on the amount of hair care products and shoes you take with you, maybe leave some of the Mrs's too .

Oh!
So you heard that "discussion" we had as to why a "travel hairdryer" wasn't good enough, then?
There's no limit to what size hair dryer you can bring, as long as you can also bring a power source for it .. then you can use it for additional thrust like on a T.50 .. I wonder if that makes it an e-bike then though .. :cautious::unsure:

... which is the whole reason I now have an E-bike... and a Topeak Journey Trailer. The boss says that if I want us to go bike packing, then I get to pack the packing on my bike...

(BTW, the most common question with the trailer is: "Do you notice it's there?" To which the response is: "Yes, but only after you've jumped the ditch...")
