Hi Guys,

As you are all aware stock levels of everything is shocking right now. The only place i can get some tires and other bits a bobs is from bike-discount.de. They are based in germany…

im just wondering has anyone used this online shop before and is it decent/ reliable?

i have never imported before but im pretty much desperate, will there be any hidden tax charges i have to look out for? I dont want to be slapped with import tax as well as the 175 euro minimum spend!

cheers!

I have used them and no complaints. Takes them 5 days to process your order and not any updates but when it shipped DHL were good with the updates.

As it is coming from the EU into UK you will have to pay customs duty. DHL (bikediscount.de courier) will ask for the duty to be paid before the final delivery (normally the case at the moment I have seen). I have seen lately a lot of items they will not ship to the UK, it will tell you when you get to the final payment screen. They will ship to NI, just like Bike24 as they remain in the customs union so if you know anyone in NI they could send them on.

I have recently, for a GX AXS Upgrade Kit that I couldn't get in the UK. The prices shown are ex VAT, so you'll be paying 20% on top, plus courier processing (about £10), plus a bit of import duty. They were stating 5-7 day delays at the time, which was reasonably accurate. But then it takes longer to get here, and you have to wait for customs to process. With Parcelforce it was a pain, as you have to wait for a physical letter before you can pay the duty.

Also ordered from Mantel UK recently. They're capped at £135 but pay the VAT for you upfront. Only had 1 order, but it was shipped same day and arrived pretty promptly. I'd assume that as duties and VAT is up front by the supplier it can be fast-tracked through customs. If you can get under £135, I'd use them.

I have used them many times, but not since Brexit. They were very good then, fast delivery, good with warranty claims etc All you could wish for really, then! Now it's all a bit of an unknown. They could do themselves a power of good by making it absolutely clear on their website "this is all you pay".

Ref shipments from the EU: I currently have two orders going through BikeInn.com (a Spanish company). They gave me confidence by quoting who the courier was and what the delivery date was, plus a tracked service. In addition a member told me that he had had some deliveries from them without issue. A saddle is supposed to arrive in a five-day window starting tomorrow and has already been shipped, so I will find out the vat/import duty issue very soon. A helmet was also quoted the same delivery, but the tracking data shows that it has not arrived at their warehouse yet. That means it was not in stock when I ordered! Not happy at that as they did not say! But I have used them before without problem, again pre Brexit. We shall see.

Use them a lot, but are not UK based, so have no idea about taxes and other stuff. Super realiable shop and they got a huge stock of components.

If the order is less than £135 the retailer is supposed to charge VAT at the point of sale.........and if they have got themselves sorted out ( some of the EU bike online sites have now) the price they quote should include all costs........VAT, Import Duty ( if applicable), Delivery. Personally I would not use an online retailer who has not got all of that sorted out.

They can follow the same procedure for orders over £135.

The reason the £135 limit was introduced was to stop the need for VAT and Customs duties paid on thousands of small consignments entering ports when VAT/Customs processes are primarily aimed at high value large import/export consignments.

thanks for the reply. But i did state its a 175 min euro spend and i will get as close to that as possible.

so i dont think the below £135 limit would apply to my questions. But always good to know. Thanks :)

I've used Bike-discount many times, my last order placed after Brexit was for £160 plus £13.75 for shipping, no extra VAT or tax. Also the invoices used to be in Euros and now they're in GDP. Their packaging got damaged in handling somewhere between UK customs and delivery. I opened it to find the old packaging inside had an empty bottle of Muc Off that had a split in it. All the other bits and pieces were undamaged. I wrote to Bike-Discount.de to complain and they refunded me all my money less the shipping and I kept all the goods that were intact. This was sorted very quickly with the money back in my account in a couple of days. Great service and competitive prices, what's not to like?

Here is a bike products company that has brought clarity to the purchasing from the EU. The company is Bikester and despite the website address of bikester.co.uk it is a company based in Germany. Their Brexit FAQs is clear. Furthermore, they do not actually take the money from your account until the day of shipping. They do put a reserve there though.

I’ve ordered a few things from them in the past, and always been good. I did have to return a pair of pedals for warranty this year, which ended up taking nearly 4 months. They did pay the carriage though.

I’ve bought a few things from bikeinn recently due to UK stock levels, and they’ve been good. Items arrive in a packet with a Royal Mail label on them, so I think they’re sent over to the UK in a bigger packet, then distributed. No import tax on them either, and they come in a little over a week.
