my LBS has honoured their side of a deal we did and are offering me the 700W battery for a very good price. Now, since I've hardly had the to actually ride the damn thing, I have no good metrics for deciding whether I need a second battery, but I'm assuming it will generally be a useful thing. How long does the 500W one take to charge from about empty? I'm assuming it won't get to full over lunchtime when plugged into the car (via a large inverter) or a cafe.....

Mine took about 4-5 hours from flat. The 700wh on my 2019 takes around 6 hours

An after market, 3rd party solution to provide extra battery capacity. Usually in the form of additional cells in a water bottle type holder which supplements the standard battery to give more watt hours. As @xcentric said, just do a search for the many threads related.
