Are the Turbo Levo 2017 and 2018 the same?

Mine was bought dec 2016 so I guess it’s a 2017 model
I seem to remember the main difference between the 17 and 18 was the motor 1.2 to 1.3 the tyre size 3” to 2.8” and the shifter was altered to stop ragging the teeth off the cassette

Thanks @Doogle! So, 2017 and 2018 had the same frame, wheels and brakes/brake rotors?

The answer depends on which model levels you are comparing. Components and even battery capacity (460 or 504Wh) can differ. Two significant changes are that the '18 came with a remote power selection switch on the handlebar and was available with a carbon front triangle frame.

In 17 there were only Alu wheels whereas in 18 Expert and S-Works came with carbon. 18 S-Works came with also a carbon rear triangle.

2018 I believe has 165mm crank arms (helped somewhat with pedal strikes)

the spec sheet from specialized says the travel at both ends was increased from 140mm in 2017 to 150mm in 2018. reportedly this was to preserve bottom bracket height and geometry with the switch to 2.8 tires from 3.0. however, knowledgeable folks around here claim actual rear suspension travel is actually 135mm on both models. i have a 2017 and i’m still learning and tweaking. the upgrade of adding the 2018 handlebar switch is simple and SUPER worth it!

Did that include drilling a hole in the frame? I plan on getting it done soon, but am conscious I’ll be the one who needs to make a warranty claim on the frame, especially the way I keep bottoming out coming down the hills

you do not have to drill a hole in the frame. you can cut a small notch in the plastic flange of the battery. it's pretty low-tech. there's a video on youtube on how to do it. check out the official 16/17 turbo levo thread here for the link
